    Summary

    The incumbent serves as a Program Support Assistant (PSA) for the Surgery Service (SS) at the VA New Jersey Healthcare System (VANJHS) and reports to the Surgery Service Administrative Officer. The incumbent completes and coordinates a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the executive administration of the service line.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform the full range of clerical, business, and administrative duties
    • Handles requests for information such as status of reports, suspense dates, etc. for matters requiring compliance and similar information
    • Ensures accurate, timely and consistent entry of information into appropriate database(s).
    • Acts as timekeeper, maintaining time and leave records as needed and directed by position supervisor
    • Collects and categories of all personnel workload and fiscal reports
    • Participates in training and operations guidance as it pertains to the PSA role to increase process standardization nationally.
    • Completes VA memos and reports by following required formats
    • Adapts to changing situations by modifying plans and demonstrating flexibility in changing circumstances, while displaying a high degree of interpersonal skill.
    • Plans effectively, set priorities, coordinate activities, and uses a high degree of skill in oral and written communications
    • Demonstrates proficient use of software packages such as Word, Excel

    Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am to 4:30 pm
    Telework: Employee teleworks only on an as-needed basis. (Continuity of Operations, National/Regional emergencies, situational basis, etc.)

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/11/2021.

    Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

    You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
    • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information; perform the full range of clerical, business, and administrative duties; Collects and categories of all personnel workload; familiarity with VA medical terminology .
