Position Focus:

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Career Development Office and working in cooperation with the management team of CDO, the Director for Private Sector provides comprehensive career counseling, programs, and resources to Yale Law School JD and LLM students, with a focus on private sector opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide general career counseling to JD and LLM students on all aspects of the job search process, including reviewing resumes, cover letters, job applications, and conducting mock interviews, with a focus on private sector opportunities. Serve as designated career counselor to a cohort of each first-year JD class.
Develop and present programs to educate and encourage students in the exploration of a wide variety of private sector opportunities.
Research and write resource guides, web content, and reports to facilitate the exploration of private sector career paths.
Review and implement technology to enhance programs, counseling, outreach, and collection/retention of information.
Collaborate with faculty, departments, committees, centers, and student organizations to promote professional opportunities and programs for JD and LLM students.
Develop and maintain contacts with alumni and employers to be well-informed of private sector market trends and cultivate job opportunities and mentorship opportunities.
Develop and maintain contacts with national and regional professional organizations, including the AALS, NALP, and the ABA to represent Yale Law School, formulate policies, and present and enhance programming and services.
Participate actively in office-wide programs and management team of the Career Development Office. Supervise CDO staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a hybrid position with a combination of in-person and remote work. The exact schedule will be based on the needs of the office, and may change in accordance with evolving University policy.

Essential Duties

1. Counsels and advises students and alumni on all aspects of preparation for and pursuit of professional opportunities and roles. 2. Develops and maintains contacts with graduates to facilitate mentoring, programs, and career assistance. 3. Creates and presents programs, workshops and panels on the job search process to educate and encourage alumni and students in the pursuit of professional roles. 4. Establishes and maintains contacts with regional, national, and international employers to assess job opportunities for alumni and students, and to foster professional development opportunities. 5. Researches and writes professional on-line and print publications, resource guides and reports. 6. Reviews and implements technology to enhance programs, counseling, outreach and collection/retention of information. 7. Collaborates with faculty, departments, committees and centers to promote professional opportunities and programs. 8. Collaborates with other departments within Yale University to expand counseling, programming and resources for students and alumni. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

J.D. degree and five years of relevant legal, legal education or legal recruiting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Prior experience in law school career counseling or other academic administration strongly preferred.
