The state of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Division for Children, Youth and Families has a full time vacancy for Juvenile Probation and Parole Officer II-IV.

SUMMARY:

To perform entry-level fieldwork by providing support and being responsible for the supervision of offending juveniles referred to law enforcement prior to any court involvement, with a validated strength/needs tool. Under supervision, assesses youth referred by law enforcement and makes recommendations to the court and/or Jenkins' Juvenile Parole Board in matters of parole or administrative furlough as required. Upholds the vision and mission of the company by utilizing practice models, theories, and beliefs in daily practice.

II: To conduct investigations and make recommendations as directed by the Supreme Court and Juvenile Parole Board, and to supervise juveniles placed on conditional release or parole. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency by utilizing model practices, theories, and beliefs in daily practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

II-II: Under supervision, attends court hearings and prepares written reports for the court, for use at disposition and review hearings. Make recommendations to the court on a basis of these cases.

III-IV: Independently attends court hearings, conducts pre-departure interviews for adjudicated youth and prepares written reports for the justices to use at disposition and review hearings. Makes recommendations for sentencing and forfeiture to the court.

II-IV: Supervise pre-adjusted and adjudicated Defendants and Chins as ordered by the court, minors on administrative release or parole and minors from other states under the Interstate Compact for Young.

I-IV: Monitor the parent(s) compliance with court orders and ensure that appropriate school districts are joined as parties.

I-IV: Provide prompt and accurate information to the court regarding violations of court orders and conditions, which are required by law but not sufficiently serious to warrant consideration by the court. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

I: Education: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science and ethics, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, sociology; social work, sociology or a related field.

Experience: No experience required.

OR

Education: Bachelor's degree in any field with at least 12 (12) courses or more of the following educational fields, including criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, psychology, social work, and a related field.

Experience: No experience required.

License/certification: Valid driver's license and access to transportation services for statewide travel.

Education: Master's degree in criminal justice, criminology, or biological science. Counseling services for social work or related field. Anthropology, education, human services (discipline), psychiatry, psychological sciences, sociology etc.

Two years' experience in the field of juvenile justice, or social service experiences relating to juveniles and adult probation activities. Experience associated with Juvenile Justice: Youth Court Probation; Sex Offender Programs; Substance Misuse Prevention.

OR

Education: Bachelor's degree in any field with at least 12 (12) courses or 306 credit hours in one or more of the following educational fields, including criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, psychology, social work, and a related field.

Experience: Three years' experience in the field of juvenile justice, or experience relating to juveniles in the criminal justice field. Experience associated with Juvenile or Adult Probation or activities of criminal justice.

License/certification: Valid driver's license and access to transportation services for statewide travel.

III: Education: master's degree in criminal justice, criminology, or biological science and ethics. Counseling services, cultural anthropology, education, human services (jobs), sociology; social work; or sociology related field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

II-IV : must demonstrate successful completion of the Core Academy during the employer's first 12 months.

II-IV: Upon completion of the CORE Academy, one must attend 30 hours of service training annually. In addition, one must successfully complete the formalization program.

I-IV must obtain satisfactory performance evaluation and performance recommendations from the supervisor, Juvenile Justice Services Field Attorney and Youth Services Director.

II-IV: all case records must be complete and up to date as determined by the CPU at the time of the annual performance evaluation.

IV: Must meet the JPPO IV criteria approved by the Human Resources Agency.

I-IV: Must be available for non-traditional work hours to meet the needs of young and families.

II-IV: Could be transferred to an assessment unit upon passage and implementation of Juvenile Justice Transformation legislation.

I-IV: Must have necessary skills to work in a telework unit independently.
