Full Description
Harmony Equine Center, located in Franktown, CO. is a private rehabilitation and adoption facility for abused and neglected horses, ponies, donkeys and mules removed from their owners by law enforcement authorities. Since Harmony opened in 2012, more than 2,774 horses have been helped.
Purpose of Position: Provide all animals at Harmony Equine Center with proper care and attention including adherence to established feeding, sanitation, and medical procedures. Provide development, training, and behavior correction of equines. Assist with managing training operations to ensure constant humane care and treatment of equines, as well as mentor assistant trainers. Provide adoption counseling and help ensure proper fit of equine and adopter.
Responsibilities
- Provide care of all animals, including feeding and watering, stocking feed and supply bins and checking and updating animal feed sheets.
- Observe animals to ensure proper feeding and report any signs of illness, requiring medical attention or behavioral problems.
- The animal records are in the database.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for the animals, the public, including stocking, cleaning, and sanitizing areas, including training areas, stalls, and barns.
- Keep track of cleaning and care of equipment to ensure proper functioning, and report any damage or need for repair.
- Through interviewing potential walk-in adopters, providing basic medical information and other information to help adopters make good choices, giving lessons/instruction to potential adopters, completing accurate adoption paperwork, receiving fees and providing receipts, recording transactions and reconciling monies for daily deposits.
- Write and route incoming calls; answer questions about equine center, available horses; adopt animals. Lawn care services? Record and relay messages to appropriate staff. "

- Assists in all equine training aspects.
- Assist in the development and implement specific training for equines, including general ground and under saddle work. )
- Correct equine behavioral issues.
- Assist in the overall evaluation of equines (behavior, medical, adoptability).
- Volunteers train horses and assist with general horse care.
- Support adoptions by preparing horses for the entry into the adoption process, maintaining equine records, and working with potential adopters.
- Working with a farmer on trimming his grass and making shoes.
- Working with veterinarians on medical evaluations and assisting in euthanasia.
- Under the direction of the HEC manager, volunteer and assistant horsemanship classes are taught.
- Assist humanely, with law enforcement and other people.
- Contributes to and supports the initiative to improve processes and procedures.
- Assist in the mentoring and development of Assistant Equine Trainers.

Schedule: Full Time 40 hours working five, 8 hour shifts. This position does require working on the weekends.

Compensation: $20.80 – $21.30 per hour (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)
What are the working conditions? What is your physical requirement?
Work is performed in a horse boarding/barn/outdoor setting, potentially subject to animal bites, scratches, and dangerous situations. Frequent walking, standing, bending, and stooping, with moderate movement and repetitive motions with reasonable accommodations. Working outside in extreme weather conditions, such as heat and cold. Lifting up to 50 lbs.

- Work Experience: 2 years of experience training equines, including a trainer or related position in an equine program (boarding, training, or care facility environment)

- Experience with dealing with difficult, dangerous or unhandled horses.
- Experience with restraining equines
- If driving a company car, have a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
