General Purpose

The City of Idaho Falls is seeking full-time Senior Firefighters with a minimum of two (2) years' experience with a career department for a Lateral move.

_Hourly pay is $18.54 - $21.31 depending on experience and is calculated using 2,912 hours in a calendar year. This equates to $53,988.48 - $62,054.72 annually._**

Current shifts are 48/96.

No written exam will be given for the application process.

Essential Functions

Receives continuous classroom and field training in a wide range of fire protection policy and procedures, emergency medical techniques and procedures, the Emergency Medical Service's Firefighting Techniques, Principles and Procedures; and specialized training on fire prevention and fire inspections.

Responds to fire alarm signals, performs as part of a firefighting team; responds by riding the fire truck to the scene of an emergency, lays out water hoses, hooks up a pump, and directs water streams. Also utilizes other specialized equipment : climbs and climbs ladders and uses them for rescue services.

Rescues occupants from fire danger, renders first aid; removes occupant and performs salvage operations; responds to civil defense emergencies, disasters, earthquakes, hurricanes, wildfires, and terrorism attacks and medical calls. EMT and UXO functions.

Approximately applies specialized training in high angle/rope rescue, swift water rescue and heavy extraction as needed in unique and complex rescue operations.

He trains and mentors probationary fire fighters and second- and third-class fire fighters.

Prepares and submits a variety of reports related to fire department activity.

Performs general maintenance necessary to upkeep the building and equipment, performs various maintenance tasks (i.e., paints, services, equipment, cleans, polishes, tests and repairs firefighting equipment), maintains fire trucks and fire hoses and performs annual tests of fire hydrants.

As the first contact for public information, he acts as a representative; he answers questions properly and directs the public to the correct person.

Attends public meetings to ensure the observance of fire safety requirements, standards and regulations. Conducts tours for interested groups, provides general fire education programs and general education activities.

As required, performs related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education and Experience:

A. Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent, B.

AND

B. Two (2) years of firefighting experience with a career fire department.

OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Considerable knowledge of fire department tactics and strategies, extensive knowledge of Weinstein's standard operating procedures, unambiguous knowledge about the most appropriate and effective use of firefighting equipment types, working knowledge of Jenkins's approval of interpersonal communication skills, and respect for knowledge of equipment maintenance and care.

Highly skilled in the use of standard fire-fighting equipment; highly skilled at high angle rescue, swift water rescue and heavy excavation.

Ability to perform strenuous physical labour; ability to work in all weather extremes, be able to work shifts and work extended hours, ability to operate in dangerous environments where accident and injury are not uncommon, the ability to develop effective working relationships with Supervisors, other employees, and the public; and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

3. Special Qualifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must be Emergency Medical Technician - EMT-B, EMT-A, or EMT-P certified.
Must possess an IFSAC or Pro Board HazMat Operations Certification
Must possess ICS 100,200, IS 700
Must possess IFSAC Fire Fighter I Certification

Work Environment

The functions of the position are generally performed in a controlled environment, but susceptible to all seasonal and weather extremes. Working near moving mechanical parts and in dangerous places; occasionally exposed to wet and humid environments, fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrocution and electrical shock.
