Duties

As an Excise Tax Examiner 2 (ETE2) in the Audit division and a member of the Account Research and Desk Examination (ARDE) Unit, you will perform and resolve a full range of financial examinations. Your verification of business accounts, tax returns, audit reports and other activity records will be used to validate correct tax liability. You will also support the taxpayer or their representative regarding proper reporting and compliance of tax laws and policies.

There are additional tasks :.

  • Partner with companies who choose to register without registration but still pay their previous tax debts.
  • Evaluate the obligation to report tax on unregistered business income.
  • Perform pre-audit planning activities.
  • Provide technical assistance to the department's...
  • Monitor and control tax reporting systems to ensure data accuracy and account reliability during critical situations.
  • Keep track of the department's tax accounting systems to identify any gaps and improve its performance.
  • Provide support for field audit staff in conducting research.

Qualifications

In order to be part of our team at ETE 2, you must:

One year as an Excise Tax Examiner 1

OR

Two years of professional Department of Revenue experience in accounting, auditing, compliance or tax administration, provided required accounting course work has been completed.

OR

A Bachelor's degree involving major study in business or public administration or closely allied field with a minimum of 12 semester (or 18 quarter) hours of accounting

AND

one year of accounting or auditing experience.


To join us at the ETE1 level you will possess:


A Bachelor's degree or higher involving major study in business or public administration or closely related field.

OR

Two (2) years as an Excise Tax Assistant, Tax Service Assistant, Tax Service Representative, Fiscal Technician, Tax Information Specialist or equivalent within the Department of Revenue, provided required accounting course work has been completed.

The education requirement for accounting and auditing experience may be changed annually at both levels.*

You will follow a detailed in-training plan for 12 months to gain skills in the areas mentioned above. Once you have successfully completed the in-training period, you will advance to the Excise Tax Examiner 2 level and the full scope of responsibilities noted above.
