Purpose:

The School Safety Center's purpose is to serve as the Department of Education's General Manager for Elementary and Secondary Education programs, including the Maine School Security and Emergency Management Program. This position will represent the MSSC at planning meetings with state, local, and national agencies and serves as an expert in the development of guidelines, rules, and policy for federal grants.

The SSMC director provides visionary leadership through long term strategic planning and program development, the director will lead and control the work of the SSMC to formulate relevant state-wide policy, develop agency-level goals and strategies, ensure that goals and objectives are met and allocate the necessary resources and budgets for the operation of multiple programs and activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To qualify for the position, candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree with a preference to a master's degree or equivalent professional training/certifications, ten (10) cumulative years of experience in UX leadership, security and safety, emergency planning, critical incident management and youth development.

Preference will be given to applicants with three (3) years or more of professional experience in law enforcement or related field and/or in the educational culture, education system and environment. Knowledge and experience of school administration as well as its management is a strong plus.
