Role Overview:
This position will serve as an assistant Area Engineer. Incumbent will need technical skills to review plans for complex projects, participate as a subject matter expert for Construction and manage a bundle of multiple smaller projects. Incumbent may serve as the Project Engineer on major projects.

Key elements of the job responsibilities:

  • Manage planning and project management tasks to ensure proper milestone tracking, delivery, and implementation strategies are established. Moreover, manage the allocation of resources to meet development schedules. Conduct project reviews in accordance with the Agency's performance standards. Ensure that all plans accurately reflect the scope of services, current field conditions, appropriate design standards, undated engineering judgment, and provide accurate information about potential projects for review.
  • Managing divisions and departments' programs, creating plans, and constructing rules for specific areas of responsibility; interpreting laws, rules, and regulations; reviewing program plans for completeness or economic feasibility.
  • Design and research: Create and support programs, research and technology plans (roadmaps) to enhance product quality. Assess the accuracy, effectiveness, and feasibility of research proposals.
  • Monitoring: plan, conduct, and assess engineering studies, fieldwork, which have a specific scope.
  • Analyze engineering data to generate technical guidelines, technology initiatives, training course materials, and other technical documents. This is done through analysis.
  • As a Subject matter expert, it is necessary to offer technical assistance on pavement systems, bridge design, and roadway design. Additionally, one must possess knowledge of the interrelated components and their effects on each other.
  • Provide advice on lab testing using high-quality tools related to materials and bridge/traffic research.
  • Engage in Quality Control/Quality Assurance programs to ensure policy and best practices are deployed, field data is analyzed, and plans are reviewed for compliance with design criteria.

To be eligible for employment, this individual must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and related fields from an accredited school recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). What are the prerequisites? Is it compulsory?
  • The requirement is a Registered Professional Engineer in Indiana.
  • Experience of at least five (5) years in civil engineering (if applicable) or transportation research or related field. All are welcome.

  • Elaborate knowledge of the planning, design, or construction procedures for highway or transportation project features (such as roads and bridges) in line with engineering design and construction standards, principles, techniques, and methods.
  • Fulfilling a full comprehension and proficiency in implementing federal and state statutes, regulations, and protocols that govern current specializations'"
  • Significant proficiency in computer-based design and drafting capabilities, particularly in a particular area of expertise. Additionally,
  • Capacities to take initiative, imagination when making technical suggestions and limitations.
  • Capacities to create and assess intricate design plans and related reports related to the functional domain.
  • Capacity to plan, organise, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies.

  • Knowledge and competency in complying with the requirements of AASHTO Design Specifications, AASHTO Standard Specification and Tests, and ASTM Standards.

  • Department-specific expertise in various systems, including SPMS, TIMS, ArcGIS and WMS.

  • The ability to use bridge design software such as CONSPAN, RC-Pier, and GEOMATH, along with the National Highway Institute's "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges" and "Frivolous Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges" courses. They must also attend INDOT's Bridge Inspection training classes, the California County Bridge Conference at Purdue, or the state's Border Inspections held annually in their district. Additionally, they must attend INDOT training classes on bridge inspection, including the CIBC's "Inspection of Structures and Construction" and "Important Principles of Bridge Inspection" courses.
