The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Division of Child Support Services, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Child Support Specialist II to join our Southern Region team. This position is responsible for interpreting and reviewing family support policy, rules, and procedures, including federal regulations. Additionally, they will interview applicants and review petitions to establish, modify, and enforce financial and medical support obligations. Additionally, They will review and approve applications for additional staff positions.


The ideal candidate will have excellent mathematics, communication, organizational, and analytical skills to be successful in performing the operations of Team L in the Southern Region.

Job Responsibilities

  • Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA) applications are reviewed and applicants are interviewed for a Uniform Family Support Act petition from other IV-D agencies/jurisdictions seeking public assistance and non-assisted Custodial Parents (CPs) to establish, modify, and enforce financial and medical support obligations of non-custodial parents (NCPs) and/or potential fathers.
  • Obtains and forwards legal documents to the Attorney General and other attorneys, initiates court proceedings, and issues administrative directives for the filing of a support or paternity action.
  • Consult absent parents, putative fathers, and spouses to interview absent parents and spouses.
  • He/she acts as a mediator and builds bridges between the attorney general, other attorneys, courts, administrative agencies, employers, and the community. Additionally, he/she cultivates relationships with the attorney general and other legal experts.
  • Ensures compliance with federal regulations by interpreting family support policy, rules, and procedures for staff, clients, absent parents, and legal representatives and monitoring implementation to ensure compliance with policy and rules.
  • Regional and central office support staff are also helping with limited field investigations to locate employers, absent parents, or potential fathers when leads indicate they are working/residing in the area and in locating absent parents whose addresses are unknown.
  • Assumes additional duties as specified in the duties outlined above and is within the scope of the above. Additionally, performs other duties as necessary or assigned by the employer.

Minimum Qualifications

  • needs 2 years of experience as a child support specialist ( 2 years' experience )
  • Must possess knowledge of all aspects of court procedure, including court procedures, including euthanasia laws, and court procedures regarding child support.
  • Must possess knowledge of analyzing data to determine child support claims and possess a thorough grasp of statistical analysis. Is proficient in evaluating child support claims.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a national background check process before being hired, as the individual may be compelled to undergo a background check due to accessing classified federal tax data.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain state-issued equipment, such as a laptop and/or cell phone, while also fulfilling other requirements.
  • The capacity to travel and the requirement to travel at least a few hours per day.
