Position Summary

For the University of Denver to achieve a highly engaged global network, it is imperative that we strategically recruit, activate and partner with network leaders and volunteers across the United States. This effort will continue to strengthen DU's global network of supporters and ambassadors by engaging more network members and volunteers in our communities.

In alignment with the director of the volunteer network's vision, the assistant film director will lead engagement efforts for alumni, parents and friends in Jenkins's de facto alliance with the University's digital strategy and oversee a portfolio of culturally-based affinity networks and their volunteer leaders.

The University of Denver is also unique in its academic portfolio, which includes both a strong undergraduate experience as well as highly respected graduate and professional schooling. The Assistant Director and the Director of Volunteer Networks will work closely together with colleagues working within the specific Weinberg School, college and university units to craft innovative volunteer engagement strategies.

Essential Functions

Volunteer Engagement

  • Alumni Engagement serves as the point of contact for community service and volunteerism.
  • Under the leadership of the Director:
    • The overall volunteer engagement strategy and plan, including the annual goals and objectives.
    • The build and update the volunteer platform, as well as train campus partners on how to utilize it.
    • Create, maintain and distribute volunteer handbook(s), training manual(s) and tools.
  • Manage individual volunteer requests in a timely fashion with team members and partners.
  • Assist with the coordination of annual volunteer recognition events and communications.

Network Activation

  • Together with the Director of Volunteers, they build and maintain a volunteer leadership pipeline for assigned networks that includes leveraging volunteer recruitment strategies to ensure a robust pool of potential volunteers, providing intentional training and onboarding that articulates the breadth of volunteering experience, as well as stewarding current and former volunteer leaders.
  • Manage the growth and sustainability of established identity-based networks, including but not limited to: LGBTQ+Affinity Network; Latinx alumni affinity network; Black alumni alliance; and Indigenous peoples.
  • Together with the Director of Volunteer Networks, they plan and implement comprehensive programs designed to engage a diverse group of DU alumni, parents, and friends in concert with University Advancement's goals.''
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with campus partners, particularly with Student Affairs and the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, on new and existing initiatives related to the student-alumni life cycle.
  • Leverage partnerships to ensure appropriate touchpoints with current identity-based student organizations and faculty/staff affinity groups.

Philanthropy

  • In concert with campus partners in Student Affairs and Education, Alumni Engagement serves as the lead on philanthropy and volunteerism.
  • Leverage the relationships cultivated through programmatic work to identify and sustain diverse groups of alumni, parents, and friends in support of equity-based fundraising initiatives and programs.

Signature Events & Programs

  • Participate in the planning and coordination of activities including but not limited to Homecoming, Alumni Weekend, ZooLights, 1DDU, Day of Service and Class Reunions.
  • Partner with Alumni Career and Professional Development to expand alumni engagement in career development programs for students and recent graduates from historically underrepresented groups.

Operations

  • In partnership with the Director of the Volunteer Networks, data-driven strategies include monitoring and analysis of trends to support decision making and the determination of best return on investment.
  • The support team ensures the correct record integrity through regular and timely updates to the CRM.
  • Support and contribute to ongoing measurement and evaluation of comprehensive engagement efforts and metrics across all modes of engagement (experiential, volunteerism, communication and philanthropy). )
  • A work environment that promotes knowledge, respect for and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, and attending professional development courses and attending training and/or courses directed by the director.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. )
  • 3 years of relevant experience in the consulting field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Through the lens of education, experience with alumni relations and philanthropy.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting or similar setting.
  • Progressive experiences in student engagement, alumni relations, event planning, volunteer management, or development.
  • Budgetary oversight experience.

Working Environment

  • Standard open office environment
  • The noise level is moderate to high.
  • Eligible for hybrid work

Physical Activities

  • For an extended period of time, the ability to sit in front of a computer.
  • Occasionally, required to move about the office/campus with the capacity of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.
  • Occasional travel is expected within the top regions and networks.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000.
