The Nutrient Management Program (NMP) provides education and resources to the regulated community falling under the Nutrients Management Law passed in 1999. Part of the regulation requires farm inspections for land and animal operations required to operate under a Nutritional Management Plan, and to conduct visual inspections of manure handling procedures.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Organizes and conducts a program to assist farmers and agri-businesses in understanding and complying with environmental and pollution control laws and regulations.
  • Consults with and advises farmers and agri-businesses on compliance with state and federal environmental laws and regulations related to pollution affecting the farming community.
  • Maintains liaison with regulatory agencies, commercial and community organizations, educational institutions, and local governments regarding environmental programs as it relates to agriculture.
  • Develops and presents educational workshops and seminars and prepares articles, pamphlets and other educational materials.
  • Assists with pesticides, including certification and education.

Job Requirements

What are the job requirements for an Agricultural Specialist?
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • 6 months experience in pesticide application and safety standards.
  • Six months experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • 6 months of experience in presenting training courses using a variety of training methods such as lecture, structured exercises, role play or group discussion and use of training materials such as overheads, PowerPoint, handouts or videos.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, cancelled or disqualified from driving).
