Job Duties

The State Library of Ohio invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Library Consultant – Adult Services, located in Columbus, Ohio.

What You Will Do:

  • Advises & consults with librarians, trustees, governmental agency employees & professional groups, and other agency staff on statewide initiatives and grants specific to Library Programs & Development (e.g. adult literacy, services to adults and senior citizens, specialized services to marginalized adult populations, continuing education, adult educational programs, senior outreach services, state and federal subsidy programs and grants, etc.).
  • Conducts on-site visits to analyze and assess service needs.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and reports on state and federally funded library projects and grants.
  • Reviews and recommends applications for grant funding or federal assistance funding.
  • Assists libraries in the strategic planning process (e.g. travels to conduct &/or facilitate onsite focus groups & assist with survey design; analyzes survey data; compares focus group findings with that of similar libraries; involves library Board of Trustees as requested by library director; prepares reports to assist with plan development & aligning plan to community needs, etc.).
  • Develops and presents workshops and seminars directly to librarians and through train-the-trainer methods, using both in-person & online training tools.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all of the State Library's internal and external customers.

Qualifications


Master's degree in library science from accredited college or university; 12 mos. exp. in library science position performing budgeting & project management tasks or in management &/or administration; 5 yrs. exp. in library science position. Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience requirement.


Knowledge of library science & technology; public relations; agency, state &/or federal rules, regulations, statutes, policies &/or procedures applicable to library science & assigned specialty area*; budgeting; project management. Skill in operation & maintenance of microfiche reader/printer, audio-visual equipment & on-line computer systems. Ability to deal with many variables & determine specific action (e.g., research procedures; policy development & interpretation); handle sensitive inquiries & contacts with officials; develop & maintain good rapport with professional & non-professional library personnel, officials &/or community representatives; use proper research methods in gathering data; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things.
