JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for collecting, analyzing, and managing a variety of Detention and Re-Entry Program statistical data in order to identify trends in incarcerated individuals and recidivism rates and assisting in devising solutions to recidivism problems and formulating detention and reentry strategies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Collects, collates, and analyzes a variety of economic, geographic, and social information in support of Detention Facility and Reentry Programs; utilizes various sources including arrest reports, census and demographic data, and other related data.
- Collects and analyzes information collected from all areas of the Sheriff Department (detention facility, patrol, investigations, etc.) to aid in the identification of recidivism trends.
- Assists with gathering, analyzing, and reporting of data for Advanced Pre-Trial Policy and Research (APPR).
- Analyzes a variety of detention data to identify proper billing agencies for incarcerated inmates within the facility; makes recommendations to improve existing techniques or methods and increase efficiency.
- Conducts statistical analysis to determine effectiveness of reentry programs and identify disciplinary issues and make correlations to particular units, officers, etc.
- Acts as a liaison between the general public and the Sheriff Department; responds to telephone calls and questions from outside agencies, facilities, and the general public related to non-sensitive information.
- Utilizes an internal record management system to store and manage data used in statistical analysis of information; answers questions and makes recommendations as to the best way to obtain data from the system. Develops and prepares charts, graphs, maps, reports, and related materials in order to track and present findings related to the detention population and reentry programs.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Assists in generating and preparing data used to develop year end statistical reports.
- Assists in monitoring the state and county active parole population.
- Assists in developing and maintaining statistics and resources pertaining to the Re-Entry Program for the community’s use on the Sheriff Department’s official web site. Performs other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a smoking restricted office environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of statistical research and analysis.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methodologies, and techniques of crime analysis, crime prevention, and law enforcement.
- Good knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and safety regulations.
- Considerable knowledge of the basic operations, services, and activities of a crime analysis program.
- Ability to analyze crime pattern statistics.
- Ability to develop computerized reports used to interpolate data.
- Ability to write and prepare statistical and narrative reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare and present comprehensive research and reports, both orally and in written form.
- Ability to recommend corrective action regarding crime trends and criminal activity. Skill in the operation of a computer including database, mapping, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Digital dexterity needed for the operation of a computer keyboard and calculator.
- Visual acuity needed for use of a computer screen. Ability to communicate orally in person and by telephone.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, mathematics or statistics, or a related field; considerable experience in crime analysis, statistical research, data analysis, mapping, or related area; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation, drug screening, motor vehicle report check, sexual offender check, child maltreatment check, and adult maltreatment check.
- Must be able to obtain ACIC/NCIC certification.
- Must obtain Crime Analyst Certification within 6 months of hire.
