The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Glennallen!

What you will be doing:
The Program Technician provides administrative, clerical, and technical support for Glennallen Area management projects and functions. This position provides current information to the public regarding fish and wildlife regulations and practices while issuing permits, selling licenses, and performing data entry. The position is shared with the Division of Wildlife Conservation and is the sole administrative support for accounting and personnel of both divisions stationed in Glennallen.

Through interacting with the public, careful tracking of permits and hunting or fishing reports, attention to detail, and administrative coordination in the office, the Program Technician works as part of the Glennallen team and is integral to the success of the Division of Wildlife and Division of Sport Fish missions.

The working conditions you can expect:
The position is located at the ADF&G office at Mile 186.3 of the Glenn Highway in Glennallen. The daily work environment involves effective communication and teamwork with office coworkers as well as regular use of a computer while assisting the public in person and over the phone at the information desk of the Glennallen office.

We are looking for a candidate that possesses some or all of the following position-specific competencies

  • Experience working in a public information or customer service field.

  • Experience using computers and computer software, especially Microsoft Word and Excel, to conduct routine biological data entry, simple analysis or output.

  • Team commitment as well as strong oral communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with frustrated or confused individuals.

  • Administrative office experience, including processing and submitting purchase receipts or invoices, and tracking budgets.

  • Experience with the hunting, fishing, trapping and recreational opportunities in the Copper River Basin.

Key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide to the public specific and detailed information on state, area, and department regulations and management plans when answering hunting, trapping, sport fishing, and subsistence fishing inquiries.
  • Issue hunting and fishing permits and sell hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses to the public and submit regular reports on office sales.
  • Seal grizzly and black bears, measure skulls, and pull teeth for aging.
  • Compile, analyze, and monitor hunting and fishing biological data in Excel spreadsheets for statistical information and reports.
  • Acts as the liaison between the Glennallen area office and the Regional offices for Sport Fish and Wildlife Conservation located in Fairbanks and Palmer for the information program and administrative functions.
  • Reviews, codes, approves, and enters expenditures into the Department’s Admin Program - working with local vendors when discrepancies arise or corrections are necessary.
  • Acts as liaison with building maintenance and contractors to achieve general maintenance, repairs, and phone service.
  • Compose documents and create/maintain spreadsheets in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Manage front office files, logistics and physical space; track office supplies and prepare orders as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish, wildlife or habitat resources;
OR
One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures, precedents, and policies in administrative, informative, and/or programmatic functions. This experience includes work such as an Office Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
