The Economic Services Administration (ESA), Division of Child Support (DCS) has multiple opportunities available for Support Enforcement Officers in Tacoma, Washington. Apply today and join us in Transforming Lives!

In this role, you will provide direct service to customers, establishing, modifying, and enforcing financial and medical obligations.
Hybrid telework options are available with staff working 1-4 days a week from home. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

You will have the opportunity to:
  • Work with parents, attorneys, and advocates to establish child support obligations and apply sanctions should they not comply with the terms of those obligations
  • Independently establish administrative child support orders by researching and locating income information, calculating complex financial and medical obligations, calculating arrears balances as required, preparing and serving legal notices, and negotiating settlements as appropriate
  • Analyze, interpret, and apply State, Tribal, Federal, and International laws pertaining to the legal determination of paternity, the establishment and enforcement of financial and medical child support
  • Review and interpret court and administrative child support orders to determine when obligations may be suspended or terminated, the support amount, and the frequency at which support is charged
  • Utilize Divisional signature authority to initiate and sign legal notices, including correspondence with clients, courts, and other Washington State agencies
  • Locate individuals and assets utilizing State interfaces such as Employment Security, Department of Revenue, Department of Licensing, Labor and Industries, Federal Parent Locate Service, and the Social Security Administration
  • Maintain a caseload of child support cases utilizing the Support Enforcement Management System and effective management skills
  • Other duties as assigned

Who should apply?
Professionals with two years of college-level coursework and 2 years of experience in child support enforcement and/or debt collection-related functions. (Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute year for year).

OR

Two years of experience as a Child Support Enforcement Technician in Washington State service.

These are in-training opportunities and with successful completion of a one-year training program, you will become a Support Enforcement Officer 2.
