The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Screening and Calculation Specialist. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate organizational and excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to multitask job functions and responsibilities simultaneously.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the calculation process and the ability to complete complex overpayment calculations.
  • Review and process completed calculations.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) database, cyclical payment dates and gross income amounts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Provide administrative support to the Department’s Fraud and Overpayment Referral Screening Unit by performing complex overpayment calculations of the SNAP and Cash Assistance programs.
  • Research state and federal regulations and maintains a strong knowledge of such, to ensure program rules and regulations are followed.
  • Screen incoming fraud and overpayment referrals received from Department staff and reject referrals if necessary.
  • Perform screening and case reviews.
  • Verify allegations by using the TALX Work Number and/or sending verifications to employers and other agencies.
  • Create appeal packages
  • If necessary, represent the Department at Administrative Hearings or Court proceedings to defend the calculations performed.
  • Assist in processing and assembling SNAP SLEB investigation forms and documents
  • Provide other administrative dues within the Fraud Investigations and Data Matching Unit as needed.

  • Spanish speaking candidates encouraged to apply.

  • Strong working knowledge of excel.
  • Ability to assemble items of information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to write concisely, to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in a logical sequence.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others.
  • Ability to adjust to varying or changing situations to meet emergency or changing program requirements.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential material.
  • Ability to work under adverse working conditions.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.*

II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
