As stewards of the resources in our parks, we seek to manage Tennessee's state parks in order to preserve and protect valued resources and to provide a balance of services and benefits for the enjoyment of the people.


Job Overview:

This Park Manager 1 position is essential to overseeing the safety and security operations of the park by supervising a team of Park Rangers, as well as providing first responder services to our many guests.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Commissioned Officer, providing and maintaining park safety and security, including law enforcement, first responder, and basic first aid services.
  • Supervise a team of Park Rangers. Prepare work schedules and assignments and oversee the Tennessee State Parks Safety Plan.
  • Participate in the implementation and coordination of polices for park operations. Ensure all governing state parks’ policies are observed.
  • Develop and implement natural and cultural resource management plans for the park.
  • Assist in the daily management of the park's operating budget, payroll, and other fiscal procedures.
  • Educate the public about the park's natural, cultural, and historical resources through interpretive programs and events.
  • Support community outreach programs and partner with local businesses and area officials to promote the park and impact economic development.
  • Operate variety of equipment and vehicles, including boats, law enforcement vehicles, and safety equipment.


Required Experience:

The candidate is required to be a State commissioned officer recognized by the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy or is willing to become commissioned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have natural resource or parks and recreation management experience and a bachelor's degree in Natural Resource Based Management (Natural Resources, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, etc.), Park and Recreation Management or related field.
