Job Description:
Position Title: Development Officer

Position Summary
This position is an integral part of a collaborative, donor-centered fundraising team securing major gifts to support the museum’s mission. The Development Officer will serve as a key member of the Crystal Bridges development team and extension of the Momentary, working in a collaborative, donor-centered manner to secure major gifts in support of the organization’s mission. The Development Officer will support our overarching strategic fundraising goals through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and sponsors for Crystal Bridges and the Momentary. He/she will support fundraising special projects, development initiatives, and goal setting. He/she will maintain accountability standards to donors and ensures compliance with the code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives.
The ideal candidate must be self-driven, highly organized, and have the ability to establish authentic, pro-active, and professional rapports with executive-level stakeholders, philanthropists, and visitors. An appreciation for the impact of performing arts, music, and visual arts in a community and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment are essential to success in this role. In addition to working as part of the Development team, this position will work closely with Crystal Bridges and Momentary leadership on fundraising efforts and must maintain the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Principle Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with assigned prospects; manage special projects; carry out fundraising priorities for the museum
- Support fundraising strategies and activities to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors; participate in the development of solicitation materials, proposals, gift agreements, and related correspondence; work in collaboration to prepare reports and prospect research materials
- Ensure development work is carried out in keeping with the organization’s culture, values, mission, vision, and plans. Evaluate the effect of internal and external forces on the museum and development program and recommend short- and long-range development plans and programs
- Grow and maintain a portfolio of donor and sponsor prospects and record appropriate information in donor management software; prepare call reports in a timely manner
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist in budget planning and resource management for development work
- Serves as a representative of Crystal Bridges and the Momentary by providing tours to special guests, making public presentation, and other community activities.
- Travel – national and international – may be required based on portfolio work and participation in the member travel program.
- May supervise one or more members of the team as the organization grows
- Representing the organization at evening and weekend events will be required
- Participates in special projects and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, Traits:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or commensurate work experience
- Working knowledge of generally accepted office management procedures and practices
- Proven record of professional ethics related to the practice of private gift fundraising
- Highest ethics as they relate to all aspects of museum practices
- Enthusiasm about being a member of a team in a major art museum with a strong guest-centered community dynamic
- Ability to understand and maintain high level of confidentiality
- Flexible and helpful; willingness to travel and work irregular hours including evening and weekend
Work Experience:
- Minimum one to two years direct development/fundraising, sales, or client management experience or comparable experience in a related field
- Minimum of five years relevant professional experience; nonprofit, museum, hospitality, or experience in a related field preferred
- Proven experience in donor relation data systems (i.e. Tessitura and Raiser’s Edge) or other customer relations systems preferred

- Ability to travel for days and weeks at a time both domestically and internationally, according to the travel schedule.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid passport or the ability to obtain one upon hire
- Valid Arkansas driver’s license with clean driving record required. Willing and able to travel locally to assist with special events and meetings as needed.

- Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time and good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job. While performing the duties of this job, employee is occasionally required to independently travel in the local area.
- Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment, museum spaces, and in communities served. The physical arrangement of the office may require the position to work in an open environment within close proximity to other colleagues. Work space must be organized and reflect efficiency. The noise level in the museum work environment is usually low to moderate. Occasional evening and weekend work hours are required.
This position is eligible to participate in the Mobile Device Stipend Program. Your manager will explain the departmental expectations of returning calls, responding to texts and responding to emails. The expectations may vary depending on the needs of Crystal Bridges and the responsibilities of the position. A signed agreement must be submitted to HR prior to participating in the program.
