The Victim Rights Coordination Director oversees the Victim Rights Coordination Unit (VRCU) within the Criminal Division of the Office of the Kansas Attorney General (OAG), and is designated as the Victim Rights Coordinator in accordance with K.S.A. 74-7337. This position directs and oversees the operation of a unit including personnel management, budgeting, long and short term planning, and oversight of the daily operation. The VRCU Director will develop and maintain an effective team to improve victim services within the OAG and increase awareness of victim rights statewide. This will include:

  • coordinating victim support within the Criminal Division’s litigation design
  • create, coordinate and assist in the operation of local victim-witness programs throughout the state
  • respond to a statewide victims rights telephone hotline
  • administer to Kansas crime victims assistance fund

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of system-based victim advocates
  • Plan, organize, and direct the operation of the unit in order to ensure that the goals of the unit are fulfilled
  • Collaborate with the First Assistant Attorneys General within the Criminal Division as necessary to ensure victims needs are met
  • Prepare and present information to the public, legislature, associations, and other interested parties
  • Prepare and monitor annual operating budget of the unit
  • Develop and/or approve policies and procedures for the unit
  • Prepare long- and short-term planning reports

Travel: Some travel within the state of Kansas for hearings, trials, and other prosecution-related duties will be required. Occasional out-of-state travel for training may be required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate degree from an accredited college or university in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, public administration, or another related field.

Licensing & Certification

  • A valid driver’s license

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least four (4) years experience in the field of victim advocacy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated management experience preferred
  • Public speaking/group facilitation experience is preferred

The pre-employment screening process will be waived for current OAG personnel who have previously completed the screening requirements.
