The VRCU Director will develop and maintain an effective team to improve victim services within the OAG and increase awareness of victim rights statewide. This will include:
- coordinating victim support within the Criminal Division’s litigation design
- create, coordinate and assist in the operation of local victim-witness programs throughout the state
- respond to a statewide victims rights telephone hotline
- administer to Kansas crime victims assistance fund
Position Summary & Responsibilities:
- Supervise a team of system-based victim advocates
- Plan, organize, and direct the operation of the unit in order to ensure that the goals of the unit are fulfilled
- Collaborate with the First Assistant Attorneys General within the Criminal Division as necessary to ensure victims needs are met
- Prepare and present information to the public, legislature, associations, and other interested parties
- Prepare and monitor annual operating budget of the unit
- Develop and/or approve policies and procedures for the unit
- Prepare long- and short-term planning reports

Travel: Some travel within the state of Kansas for hearings, trials, and other prosecution-related duties will be required. Occasional out-of-state travel for training may be required.
Education
- Graduate degree from an accredited college or university in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, public administration, or another related field.
Licensing & Certification
- A valid driver’s license
Minimum Qualifications
- At least four (4) years experience in the field of victim advocacy
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated management experience preferred
- Public speaking/group facilitation experience is preferred

The pre-employment screening process will be waived for current OAG personnel who have previously completed the screening requirements.
