Join the DMV Revenue Accounting Team as an Accounant - Journey Lead Worker and serve a critical role, primarily responsible for general ledger accounting, cost accounting, revenue analysis, training, and reconciliation work for over $1.3 billion in DMV revenue collected annually!

This position is located within the Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles headquartered at the Hill Farms State Office Building on the near west side of Madison. We are also conveniently located close to the restaurants, shopping, and entertainment of the Hilldale Mall.

Position Summary


This position will perform daily, monthly and yearly reconciliation and reporting activities for all revenue collected by the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This position leads all aspects of timely and accurate reporting of these revenues. Also, this position is responsible for training current accountant and financial specialist staff and ensuring proper reconciliation and disbursement of funds collected for other agencies and municipalities (i.e. wheel tax and special plate funds).

This position serves as the lead worker for the unit and directs the daily operations of unit employees.

Salary Information


This position is in schedule-range (07-03) with an annual salary of $54,080-$66,560, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications


Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, auditing, finance, or CPA from an accredited institution or commensurate professional accounting experience and/or training (e.g., analysis of financial statements and/or reports, balance sheets, auditing, fund or cost accounting, etc.)
  • Experience with accounting concepts, principles, and practices
  • Experience reviewing, monitoring, and auditing reports for financial systems
  • Experience with account reconciliation
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel or similar

In addition to having all the above, well qualified applicants will have experience with one or more of the following:

  • Experience leading employees and managing employee work performance such as training, development, coaching, etc.
  • Experience with DMV’s financial system as well as driver and vehicle registration program and processing systems, WISDOT financial system
  • Experience utilizing Wisconsin DMV accounting codes and appropriations
