About the Position

Under administrative direction, serves as working supervisor over the Logistical Support Section. Plans, organizes, controls and evaluates the statewide Facility and Resource Service Program for the ISP Academy ensuring the most effective use of training facilities. Manages the registration of students for all specialized, mandatory recertification classes conducted or coordinated by the Academy, including the Basic Training Course for Local Law Enforcement Officers, ESCO, and Canine Training. Directs and/or conducts a variety of research or administrative studies to evaluate the effective use of Academy resources.

Job Responsibilities

1. Plans, organizes, controls and evaluates the statewide Facility and Resource Service Program for the ISP Academy, ensuring the most effective use of training facilities. Meets with management staff to develop training priorities. Liaisons with department heads and other criminal justice agency representatives statewide to identify appropriate meeting rooms, classrooms, and equipment to accommodate special requests and agency requirements. Plans, coordinates, and schedules all training to ensure no conflicts exist. Plans and coordinates with food service providers to ensure all schedules are followed, special command requests are honored, and the food service staff is briefed and aware of responsibilities and schedules. Develops and issues a weekly schedule for command, building and grounds personnel, and the food service provider to identify all training, lodging, and classroom space in use at the Academy. Ensures classrooms and meeting rooms are set up in the proper configuration and equipped with the necessary teaching aids required by instructors. Evaluates needs and makes recommendations concerning program delivery and expenditure activity in order to formulate adjustment strategies to ensure program objectives are met and funds are appropriately obligated.

2. Serves as working supervisor for the Logistical Support Section. Assigns and reviews work, provides guidance and training to assigned staff, counsels staff regarding work performance, assists staff with day-to-day responsibilities to ensure Academy operations are successfully met. Serves as Division of the Academy and Training Property Manager and assists the Property Custodian with property control functions throughout the year. Establishes annual goals and objectives, approves time off, and prepares and signs performance evaluations.

3. Coordinates and accepts registration of students for all classes conducted or coordinated by the Academy, including the Basic Training Course for Local Law Enforcement Officers, ESCO, and Canine Training. Assists registrants with completion of paperwork and answers questions regarding the Academy registration process. Assigns class coordinators and confirms all logistical arrangements are completed.

4. Manages the registration of students for all specialized, mandatory re-certification classes conducted or coordinated by the Academy. Coordinates registration for code and sworn in-service conducted statewide ensuring the proper number of attendees at each site. Works with course coordinator and field instructors to ensure sites are reserved and appropriate materials are set for each class.

5. Directs and/or conducts a variety of research or administrative studies to evaluate the effective use of Academy resources. Assists with planning, implementing, and evaluating new programs and training courses for the Academy. Serves as a member of various teams assembled to respond to high priority projects. Represents the Academy in management meetings and on assigned projects and committees.

6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.
2. Requires two years of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefers four (4) years’ experience in developing and managing a supportive agency program.
2. Requires working knowledge of the principles of governmental accounting.
3. Prefers four (4) years’ experience analyzing administrative problems and adopting an effective course of action.
4. Prefers four (4) years’ experience exercising judgment and discretion in developing, implementing, and/or interpreting departmental policies and procedures.
5. Prefers four (4) years’ experience of developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
6. Prefers four (4) years’ experience in written communication skills, effective public speaking skills, and time management skills.
7. Prefers four (4) years’ experience developing, installing, and/or evaluating new and revised methods, procedures and performance standards.
