Why does a job exist?

This position is to perform a variety of clerical duties in the support of Women's, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition programs according to federal and state policy. Interviews are anticipated to be performed within two weeks of the certified list. This position will be paid to produce a WIC caseload.

What is the best way to get things done?

This position will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining effective and efficient WIC operations in the local health office requires the verification of eligibility for WIC services.
  • As required by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Provide quality client services using constructs of Participant Centered Services (PCS).
  • Perform clerical duties, such as filing, typing, data entry, word processing and other computer software applications. Operation include photocopiers, fax machines and office equipment, answer phones, make appointments, monitor vendors, and supply and pharmacy orders.
  • Provide quality service and satisfaction to customers and protect the confidentiality of WIC. Demonstrates and supports WIC's mission, vision, and philosophy in the delivery of all services and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of culturally diverse individuals, this position devotes a substantial part of their time to providing direct client service.

Who are the customers?

Pregnant, breastfeeding, and post-partum women, and children up to the age of five (5) who qualify for the WIC program.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience :

  • Both fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Defining income eligibility, as well as residency and program categories, are important for determining participants.
  • Defining the appropriate appointment criteria for applicants and participants.
  • Working with families of low income.
  • The service provides referrals to other resources available in the community.

High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) months of general office experience. Substitutions apply, see substitution table.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Reform Act (HIPPA) and successful completion of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) are required within 60 days of the employment. Must possess, maintain or obtain a current, defensive driving course certification from the state of New Mexico or Weinstein must pass and obtain a defensive driver course certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting, with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminals (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Travel to remote offices, meetings, training sessions and special events may be required, many of whom do not speak the English language. Lifting up to 50 pounds may also be provided by a clinic with diverse populations.
