Summary Statement

An eligibility list for current and future Trooper trainee positions throughout Arizona will be established using this recruitment. This classification is designed as uncovered, and incumbents serve at the discretion of their respective departments' Director of Public Safety. Additionally, an eligibility list for future Troopers will be established.


The next test will be conducted on Thursday, October 5, 2023, in
Phoenix.
Must pass a listening test.'
Written Examination & Physical Fitness Test
Those who meet the necessary qualifications will receive an email with additional testing details. Individuals who successfully complete all stages of the testing process will be listed to fill current and future positions. This is done through recruitment activities.

Trooper Trainees are assigned throughout the state to Highway Patrol Division offices where they complete orientation and training, and perform a wide variety of functions and work. Trooper Trainee positions are designed to prepare prospective candidates to be a Cadet State Trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Applicants must pass a written and physical fitness examination and demonstrate they have the ability to prepare to be a State Trooper. Trooper Trainees will complete regular physical fitness training and tests, assist with traffic operations, complete administrative work, perform research and special projects, and be considered for advanced training that benefits them and the Department. The demographic group is limited to individuals age 18 to 20 years old and 6 months old., who otherwise meet the requirements to be a Cadet State Trooper. Performs related duties as assigned.

Essential activities (not a comprehensive list):

  • Supports Departmental staff in carrying out a diverse array of administrative and operational tasks/functions, depending on the area's requirements.
  • Conducts research and generates reports on selected subjects.
  • Ends arranged physical and academic training and testing in readiness for joining the State Trooper Academy as a state cadet.
  • Takes on special projects or tasks as outlined.'
  • Performs specific tasks and, through special training, acquires the functions prescribed by the Department in support of its mission.

What knowledge, skills and abilities are required?

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • The proficiency required to write simple business English documents, along with spelling, grammar, and punctuation, etc.
SKILL IN:
  • The operation and control of a motor vehicle is for individuals.
  • The utilization of a computer keyboard. (A)
ABILITY TO:
  • Working in isolation and as a team.'

  • Write or speak in a language that conveys information in a clear and concise manner.'
  • Working within tight deadlines to complete work tasks.'

  • Perform tasks for prolonged periods in conditions of high humidity, cold temperature, or rain.

  • Conduct work efficiently under challenging and dangerous circumstances to handle road emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a U.S. citizen and a high school graduate or have a GED. Must be at least 18 years of age at the starting date of employment. By the starting date, must be a resident of the state of Arizona and possess a valid Arizona driver license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must obtain ACJIS Terminal Operator Certification within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout the course of this assignment with the Department.
Holidays, weekends, and shift work may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Primarily office setting.
Availability to work irregular hours and/or respond to emergency callouts on a 24-hour basis.
Ability to travel extensively throughout the State.
May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, or bodily fluids.

Must pass a listening test.'
