About Our Job

The Denver Sheriff's Department (DSD) is the largest sheriff's department in the state of Colorado, with over 900 uniformed and non-uniformed employees. Operation include two jails (Van-Ciel-Simonet detention center, Denver County Jail), security for the District-Episocal-Justice system, inmate transportation, extradition, and fugitive search and rescue, a community corrections and release facility, an impound facility and security at the Denver Health Medical Center.

The Denver Sheriff Department is seeking a supervisor of administrative support for our Vehicle Impound Facility. This position will oversee and coordinate activities by workers involved in providing administration support, said Deputy Chief John Rutter.

This position will be housed at the facility located at 2619 York Street, Denver, CO 80216. Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that includes the applicant's employment history and criminal history.

The job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of workers who perform office support duties which support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards, training and methods for managing a specialized system or program.

  • Maintains, advises on, and interprets the policies and programs of a specialized system or program.

  • Develops or modifies work plans, methods and procedures, determines work priorities and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion. Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and unusual assignments; encourages innovation and offers mentoring to staff.

  • Does he conduct job interviews and selects candidate(s) for the job opening(s)?

  • During staff shortages, call-offs or other tasks may be required to fill in for subordinates.

  • Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions. Encourages a supportive environment by fostering positive working relationships, regular communication, and the identification of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization; promotes teamwork.

  • Develops the performance enhancement plan, documents performance and evaluates the work of the employee, provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Develops and implements training and development plans and opportunities for subordinate staff. Demonstrates an accessible demeanor and is willing to be flexible and adaptable.

  • The document causes disciplinary action and initiates letters of reprimand and formal recommendations for corrective action. Responds to formally, informal employee grievances; prepares written responses.

  • By position, he participates in planning and managing budget systems, prepares and presents budget recommendations to higher management, and adjusts work plans/activities as a result of budget changes.

Here are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:

  • Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HISET or TASC Certificate.
