ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

75% Street Maintenance

  • All city streets, curbs and sidewalks must be maintained.
  • Clean, repair and patch up potholes and cracks.
  • Paint street markings, crosswalks, street lane lines and other necessary markings.
  • What are some clean streets with street sweepers?
  • And to finish off the concrete, I made improvements to the ADA. Valley gutters? Special projects are included.
  • What is the best way to remove snow and ice from streets?
  • On a regular basis, operate a motor vehicle and other equipment as required.

20% Facilities and Equipment

  • All divisional equipment must be maintained in a good working order.
  • Problems with the equipment in the department.
  • What is the best way to clear out snow and ice from city facilities?
  • Organize and maintain the distribution facility in a clean, safe and secure condition.
  • Participate in building, repairing and maintaining public buildings and buildings on public land. This includes roofing, general construction, concrete work and painting.
  • Prepare equipment and facilities for winter or adverse weather, when needed.
  • May provide instructions to new employees in the proper method of completing tasks.

5% Storm Drainage System

  • Within the city, clean and maintain streets, streets, and storm water systems.
  • Clean storm drain inlets.
  • Repair and maintain storm drains, culverts, and other drainage channels or ditches.
  • As part of the storm drainage system, repair and maintain water storage ponds.

Continually, the company looks for new and improved ways of completing the above functions. Other tasks as assigned will be performed in order to address business needs.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Latitude: Most duties are defined and consistent from day to day. Problem solving requiring is accomplished in conjunction with supervisor. Some decisions not affecting other departments may be made independently based on city policy. All purchase requests must be approved by supervisor. Regular and reliable attendance at work is expected.

Interaction: Frequent interaction with employees throughout the organization and the general public.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of related experience preferred.
  • The valid driver's license and driving record must meet the commercial driver's insurance requirements.
  • Valid Kansas commercial driver's license, required within six months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of paved roads and maintenance.
  • General knowledge of basic ground maintenance, construction techniques and basic mechanics.
  • Can I apply my intermediate math skills?
  • How do I read and understand blueprints?
  • The ability to operate all types of equipment.
  • The ability to meet and deal with the general public in a tactful and efficient manner, and to communicate effectively and clearly both in writing and in person.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Requirements: Frequent (90%) exposure to adverse weather conditions, high noise levels, and hazardous situations. Frequent (40%) carrying, lifting, moving, or pushing of 50 pounds. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting. Must be available for on-call and overtime.
