The Position
Job Appointment: Full-Time
Streetcar Operating Hours: Mon-Fri. 05:00-00:30, Sat-Sun 06:00-23:30. Position responsible for covering vacation shifts and will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. This position is considered Essential.
Work Location: Portland Streetcar, 1516 NW Northrup Street, Portland, OR 97209. This position also works outdoors in all weather conditions and involves frequent interaction with potentially disruptive members of the public; also requires alertness to potential hazards associated with working on the transit system. The duties of this position entail office duties and incident response on the streetcar system in city-owned vehicles.

Personnel appointed for limited-term positions will be classified as limited duration employees, with a maximum appointment period of two (2) years, except for grants or funding from external sources. This is known as restricted recruitment.

Position Summary:
The City of Portland is seeking a Portland Streetcar Operations Supervisor in the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT). The Portland Streetcar Operations Supervisor is responsible for planning, scheduling the daily operations, and assigning the work of TriMet personnel engaged in the daily operation of Portland streetcar vehicles.
The opportunity to do is available:
- Direct and supervise the work of the assigned TriMet controllers, TriMet operators, and other city personnel from right of way locations.
- Provide in-person customer service and professional response to difficult passenger situations.
- Operate Streetcar’s periodically, in service, in conjunction with labor contracts.
- Lead investigations and collect documents related to accidents and other service disruptions, in conjunction with ODOT SSO guidelines.
- Apply the Streetcar Agency Safety plan to daily activities; and responding to, day, evening or weekend operational problems or emergencies as required.
- Perform monthly required check rides and support other Rule Compliance Plan activities.
- Dispatch streetcars when the circumstances dictate.

To Qualify
The subsequent minimum criteria are present.?required for this position:
Experience applying transit and/or rail operation policies and procedures.- Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques for investigating incidents, accidents, and/or service disruptions.
- Experience in direct and effective supervision of employees, both represented and non-represented.
- Ability to read and apply the principles of SMS and Agency Safety Plan; aimed at providing safe transit for the public and streetcar workers.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Receive a DOT medical card and keep it up-to-date within 6 months of employment.
- An official state driver's license and a track record of satisfactory driving skills.
- Complete the background check process of an individual driver.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen. Please note: This is a "safety sensitive" position and will be included in a random drug and alcohol testing pool.
- A DPSST Personal Security Certificate is granted with bureau support and must be received within 60 days of hiring.
