POSITION: Police Officers

DEPARTMENT: Police Department

HOURS: 12 Hour Rotating Shifts

HOURLY RATE: $17.29 Per Hour (Starting Annual Salary is $37,761.36) non-Certified

$19.29 Per Hour (Starting Annual Salary is $42,129.36) Certified *Based on Experience

DUTIES: The work of a police officer involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals and general enforcement of laws and ordinances.

Typically, duties consist of routine patrol, investigation, and traffic control. Working often involves personal danger, and the employee must be able to exercise independent judgment under stress. The duties are performed in cars or on foot. Supervision is received from superior officers who review work methods and results through accomplishments, personal inspection, and review of written reports covering activities and discussion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be eligible to work in the United States; and possess and maintain a valid Mississippi driver’s license. Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

To qualify as a law enforcement officer and work, all non-certified applicants must meet the following requirements: 1.

1) Must be over twenty-one (21) years old, (under 21 years old), and eligible. 1) Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21), years old, and the age of completion of education.

3) Must have a high school diploma or obtain a general education development (GED), in which case a college diploma or certified transcript from an accredited institution will suffice. Technical Certificates are not accepted.

Must hold US citizenship. 3)

4) Meet the requirements set forth in the profession, as determined by a licensed physician, and possess the ability to perform the duties under the specified conditions, including, without ambiguity, being fit and healthy for the purpose for which they were deemed fit.

Applicants must also have a clean criminal history, including not having a conviction, plea of guilty, or plea of no contest, been fined for crimes committed in connection with the duties and responsibilities of a law enforcement officer, and been discharged from the Armed Forces under honorable conditions. Additionally, they must have been released from the military under a "proper" condition.

If someone meets the minimum employment requirements and meets the definition of a law enforcement officer above, they may be eligible to work as a law Enforcement officer and must finish the required training and certification process within one (1) year of being hired, including full-time training and part-time certification, and one (1) year after being hired if approved.
