JOB OBJECTIVE: To perform various horticulture activities to include plant installation, and grounds and facilities maintenance activities in Parks and Recreation areas and facilities to include the community gardens within the City of Little Rock.

This position is designed as a safety/security sensitivity, and subject to random drug, alcohol and sexual testing.

Essential Functions

What is the minimum qualifications for a job?

These knowledge, skills and abilities are usually acquired through the completion of 8th grade. One (1) year of experience in landscaping, golf course maintenance or ground maintenance will be considered; one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience. Equivalent combinations of these two years will also be evaluated.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) driver's license can be obtained before employment and maintained for the duration of the employment in this position, and must possess a valid Arkansas class B (Commercial/Vehicle) driver''s license within ninety (90) days of that date and continue to hold it for all time.

Health Insurance (medical, dental, vision) - **** The City pays a portion of the total cost of employee only health insurance. Coverage for an employee's dependents is available at the employee's option; the City pays part of the cost of this additional coverage.

Life Insurance - The City pays the total cost of employee life insurance. Amount of coverage is one to three times salary, based on job classification.

Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D)? – The City pays the total cost for employee AD&D. Amount of coverage is one times salary.

Long-Term Disability – The City pays the total cost of long-term disability insurance. Amount of coverage is 60% of salary.

Retirement – Our 401a pension plan requires contributions by both the City and the employee.

Vacation

Regular, full-time employees shall earn vacation Leave at the following rate:

Vacation can be accumulated, but a maximum of thirty (30) days may be carried over to the next year.

Discretionary Days

Regular, full-time employees receive three (3) discretionary leave days each year. Discretionary leave days for new employees are prorated as follows:

The discretionary days will not be carried over to the next calendar year.

Sick Leave

Regular, full-time employees earn sick leave from the first day of employment at an average rate of 12 (12) days per year with a maximum accrual of 125 days.

Sick leave may be used for personal illness or injury, medical, dental and eye examinations, and pregnancy or any related disabilities.

Sick leave may be used for members of the employee's immediate family (spouse, spouse and children). Procedures vary by employee group. Employees in non-eligible classifications should consult the Administrative Personnel Policy - Procedure manual to obtain information about family sick leave.

Funeral Leave

Regular, full-time, non-promotional employees shall be paid up to three (3) days (four (4) for out-of-state funerals) with pay to handle necessary funeral proceedings or related business for a death in their immediate family.

Longevity Pay

Pay will be $3 for each year of service up to the 5th year and $6 per month for every year after that, beginning with 6 (6) years and ending thereafter.
