JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE OF POSITION: PARAEDUCATOR HEAD START

SUPERVISED BY: Teacher/or Family Support Provider

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

To ensure and provide a developmentalally appropriate, primary care that is personally tailored to meet the needs of each child and family enrolled in the preschool program. To assist the teacher/facilitator in preparing materials and setting up environments for safe and trusting relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E., and be at least 18 (state requirements). WCFD will only accept college degrees from accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Para educators must attend CDA training in the absence of an early childhood degree and must apply for a certification or certification (CDA) within one year of hire.

  • Must be able to work well with children (ages birth through three years and/or three to five years), including those with special needs, and their families.

  • Should have knowledge of developmentalally appropriate practices for children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Recruits children within the guidelines established by the Department of Health and Human Services, WCFD. )

  • Provides child care based on knowledge of child growth and development. )

  • Provides direct services to children, families, and staff in a variety of settings and weather conditions, including classrooms, private childcare, and preschools.

  • At all times, we use positive verbal and nonverbal communication when interacting with our customers. '

  • Working effectively with children with behavioral concerns, learning disabilities, and/or autism.

  • Assists in preparing and implementing group socialization experiences for enrolled children & families.

  • Completes all assigned paperwork.

  • Provides individualized educational experiences that encourage children to explore, manipulate and develop a sense of self.

  • In conjunction with teachers, family support workers and therapists, it supports individual service plan (ISP) goals and individual education plan (IEP).

  • In a clean and orderly manner, she maintains class areas.

  • Should be able to assume classroom responsibilities.

  • Performs minor first aid and routine hygiene.

  • Provides routine care for children, including changing diapers, feeding, comforting, etc.

STANDARD JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • As required by Wyoming state law, drivers must have a valid driver's license, safe driving record and liability insurance. Driving records are reviewed annually.

  • The Wyoming Child and Family Development requires an initial statement of health from a licensed health care provider and an annual health status check.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Should be able to work with families and children from birth to 5.

  • Should we possess proper stress management techniques?

  • For extended periods of time, they must possess visual acuity and the stamina to read technical materials.
