Mental Health Assistants in a Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services hospital, community mental health facility or program lead the assessment, planning and implementation of paraprofessional nursing interventions designed to support short- and long-term client needs. This class is responsible for performing the full range of paraprofessional functions in case management and crisis intervention services.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Usually, the qualifications are based on general experience, with a minimum of qualifications required. The qualifications are a foundation of general experience.
Mental health assistant level of 3 years experience. 1.
Maximum qualifications are required for substitutions, but all other qualifications are voluntary, except for language. All substitutions are acceptable.
- College training in mental health technology, a behavioral science, social work, or rehabilitation therapy may be substituted for the General Experience, with fifteen (15) semester hours equivalent to one-half (1/2) to two (2) years of experience. This training can be obtained by completing a college degree.
- A mental health trainee certification program completed after one-half (1/2) of the General Experience may be used as a substitute for the completed General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A year of experience in providing case management and one year of providing one year of experience is providing case management.
- A multi-disciplinary team member with 1 year of experience working as a team member, 1 year of Experience working in a multi-disciplinary group, 1 year or experience working in an international team, and 1 year of experiences working in multi-disciplinary teams, 1 year working as an executive, 1 year work as a manager, 1 year worked as a director, 1 year works as a project manager, and 2 years work as scouts/consultants.
- Working with clients diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness and substance abuse disorders in the community for one year, resulting in one year of community service.
- After one year of working in close partnership with various facilities, conservators, and representatives of various agencies, and maintaining good communication with multiple groups, one year of experience in managing collaboration and communication with conservators and conservators and representatives of conservatory. One year of experience working with multiple facilities and maintaining communication with multiple facilities.
- A year's work experience in ensuring documentation of client interactions with clients in line with government and regulatory requirements and experience in documenting client interactions for government and regulatory purposes.
- A year of experience working with clients in the legal system. One year of Experience working with clients within the judicial system.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- To enroll in this class, potential students may be required to speak either English, French, or Spanish as well as American Sign Language.
