Duties
- Obtain patient information from medical records by documenting it. 2.
- I attend to patients on a patient basis and by phone, greeting patients and visitors.
- Manually handling information and data from a range of automated medical systems (e.g., Computerized Health Care System, Electronic Health Record) and utilizing information and Data from other systems.
- Evaluate and comprehend the referring doctor's notes, and/or drug treatment protocol, to determine the appropriate tests and schedule them. Learn and understand the implications.
- Obtain all patients, and, based on an established algorithm, make a decision as to whether to proceed to the laboratory, retrieve further information, go to the doctor's office, or sit in the waiting area, etc.).
- Collect and analyze data on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to identify trends that impact appointment availability and the delivery of primary and urgent care services.
- Create reports that are tailored to the intended use of the data or report and meet the specified requirements.

- The appointment may be subject to a background check, which may determine whether the person is fit or not, and may also require a suitability or fitness assessment.
- The incumbent will be required to work a 40-hour, 5-5 day schedule, which may involve rotating shifts, and will likely have to work at least a 40-50 hour week in some instances.
- The person holding this position will be permanently posted in one location, but may be temporarily relocated to another due to workload, staffing issues, or other factors that impact patient care in the medical center.
- In this role, the incumbent must undergo tuberculosis testing as a prerequisite.
- The position has to meet mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations, unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption required upon hire).
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving patients and visitors in a medical treatment facility or clinic setting; scheduling patient appointments and/or coordinating patient referral appointments; maintaining patient records; and utilizing office automation systems such as Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), and/or Microsoft office to complete administrative tasks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combi Education and Experience: The nation of Education and Experience. (Notes, videos, audio materials, etc.) A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
