We currently have an opening for an IT Security & Compliance Specialist I
The position is designated Statutory Exempt and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act.
The I I am a security and compliance specialist:is responsible for vetting third party cloud vendors to ensure they are compliant with Federal regulations, State laws and State policies, performs compliance assessments, security audits, Business Continuity Planning, writes policies and procedures and tests/implements new IT security tools. In addition, they will also perform other security related job tasks on an as needed basis. This position also serves as a backup for other ISO staff when needed. Interfaces with other IT sections, all levels of management and employees. This position is located in the Department of Information Technology – Public Safety (PS) and Department of Adult Corrections (DAC) Information Security Office and works under the direct supervision of the Chief Information Security Officer.
Duties, include but are not limited, to:
- Ensures our agency is compliant in the following areas: PCI, HIPAA, CJIS, PII, FERPA.
- Consults with legal staff as needed to resolve difficult legal issues.
- Perform and coordinate IT security assessments, either internally or with external vendors.
- What are the security implications of changes to network security architecture?
- As needed, train information owners and staff in the implementation of necessary computer security controls or other ISO staff and directors.
- On an ongoing basis, I interact with other IT sections, agencies, and the Department of Information Technology (DIT).

- Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft servers, network printers and switches demonstrated an understanding of LAN technologies and architecture. Unix also demonstrated this concept.
- Demonstrated knowledge of security discipline, auditing and compliance, identification, authentication, authorization, access control.

- Proficiency in cloud-based security and application.
Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 hours in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
CISSP, CISA, CISM desirable; equivalent experience acceptable.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related IT field or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in IT Security or closely related area
OR
Associate degree in computer science or a related IT field or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in IT Security or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
