Purpose Of Announcement:
The Maine Commission on Indigent Lawyers has a current vacancy in Boston.
Job Description:
This is paraprofessional support work, which helps the court in identifying and processing applicants eligible for legal services. Responsibilities include screening applicants and verifying financial information to determine eligibility for such services and making recommendations to the court under general supervision.

- Reviews and identifies written disclosures of financial information in order to determine an applicant's financial status.
- Interviews with defendants at court locations and correctional facilities, and possibly by video, are conducted to verify the completeness and accuracy of the application.
- Based on established guidelines, the court makes recommendations to the circuit court regarding a defendant's eligibility for appointment of counsel.
- Recommends a payment schedule for reimbursement of assigned counsel fees and costs, in order to recover funds for the state according to established guidelines.
- The company maintains a record system for tracking reimbursed expenses of funds expended by assigned counsel.
- Gathers and compiles information for reports, records and analysis in order to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- The agency provides the collection of the refunds through written notices and telephone follow up.
- Tracks non-payment of reimbursements and regularly reports on persistent failure to pay back payments to the court for collection purposes.
- Investigates and verifies financial information submitted with requests for assigned counsel, in order to ensure established guidelines are being followed.
- At court locations, he works independently and effectively with the court's personnel.
- The agency sends out reports of collection activities to the central office in Washington.

- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations. Operation procedures, policy, procedure, paperwork, terminology and core operations.

Minimum Qualifications: Entry level knowledge, skills and/or abilities may be acquired through, but not limited to, the following courses: training and experience (see notes)?
A four-year combination of education, training and experience with data science methods including the review method for research, data analysis and interpretation of data.
Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements : (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class.)
To have or apply for a public notary, and to maintain that public notary.
