ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB in Bedford, NH is currently recruiting for a Transportation/Traffic Engineer with 1-5 years of experience to join our Transportation Systems group. The role involves working with multiple public, private, and institutional clients across varying sectors, including municipal, state, federal, education, government, businesses (including school), and the private sector.
Our ideal candidate has an interest in learning the practice of transportation engineering and planning across all modes and is eager to apply practical solutions to real world problems for our clients. We are seeking a candidate who is open to develop and build upon skills through on-the-job training for a wide variety of projects that may include land development traffic studies, regional planning studies, multimodal transportation corridor and safety studies, traffic and transportation modeling and analyses, traffic signal design and timing, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) solutions.
Responsibilities
- Using their expertise within a team to create transportation engineering and planning solutions for numerous projects related to transportation,
- Performing field inventories of traffic equipment and infrastructure (i.e., taking measurements and taking pictures at field sites),
- Development of traffic control design plans using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD,
- writing, summarizing data and analysis, creating reports to convey findings and recommendations, etc."
- Collect and analyze traffic and safety data,
- Using analysis tools like Synchrony, Simulation, HCS, and Sidra, and more, to carry out intersection and corridor operations.
- Developing, planning and testing traffic improvements.'
- Good speaking, writing and talking skills, good team player, etc.?
- The use of Synchronization, HCS, Sphinx, or Microstation is beneficial. However, other options are available as well.
- Detail oriented,
- Self-motivated,
- aptitude and inclination to learn, think critically and develop new skills;.
- Strong computer skills, and
- Using Excel to work as part of a team.
- An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a similar field, an advanced degree,
- With at least 1 year of experience, with a preference in transportation engineering and an aptitude for traffic engineering,
- A background in AutoCAD and Microstation is advantageous, as well as hands-on experience.
- The Fundamentals of Engineering/Engineering in Training (FEIT) Certification is a beneficial addition. Additionally, the following is a benefit of the Certification:
