Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

4 years of experience in electrical trade, 2 months of which must have been working with specialized systems such as high-voltage distribution lines, or heavy mechanical equipment like power plants and electronic signals such as traffic lights.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

On a case-by-case basis, training in electrical trades will substitute for a maximum of two years of general experience.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:
To oversee and supervise the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems primarily over 660 volts, and to coordinate activities of Bridge Maintenance Electrical Specialist, distribution and Power Plant Specialist, Marine Electrical Specialist, and the Signal Light Electrical Specialist.

Level of Work:
Supervisor.

Supervision Received:
Broad review from a Facility Maintenance Director, District Engineer, Marine Maintenance Superintendent 1, or other higher level supervisor, manager, or administrative official.

Supervision Exercised:
Line over a staff of Electrician Specialist, and Electrician Specialist Leaders.

Location of Work:
May be used by all State agencies.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Electrician Specialist Leader by the requirement to exercise full supervisory responsibilities.

Unlike an electrician, who primarily focuses on maintenance and repair of electrical systems, he applies complex technical skills to many complex technical activities, such as a power plant, an electrically operated bridge, a signal light and many other electrical operations.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE ELECTRICAL:
Supervises entire electrical maintenance on movable and stationary bridges.

Oversees the installation of electrical equipment such as motors, starters, coils, switches, panel boxes and coils for single and three-phase systems.

Supervises the installation of different types of voltage transformers and may be required to adjust power levels for the owned transformers.

Supervises the maintenance and repair of bridge hydraulic systems such as: pumps, cylinders, hoses, filters, control valves.

Supervises the maintenance and repair of grid couplings, locks, and wedges on movable bridges.

Oversees the maintenance of the electrical distribution system over 600 volts in the compound at the District Headquarters.

DISTRIBUTION AND POWER PLAN SYSTEMS ELECTRICAL:
Oversees a majority of duties on systems/equipment at and above 660 volts: and primary distribution lines of 1450 volts and above.

Oversees the installation of high-voltage transformers.

Specifies splicing and insulation of high-voltage underground, overhead, and transformer cables of 1 400 volts and above.

Subordinates who locate and correct problems on high-voltage lines use insulators, oscillators or tone detectors to find structural faults in underground cables.

Pheasing sticks on rotating phase meters check out the rotation of the cables before switching into the circuits.

Troubleshoots, repair and installs electrical meters; starters; switchgear and control panels.

Oversees installations, tests, repair and maintains generators, transformers, regulators, switches, circuit breakers. Records the performance of these systems, control systems and other circuit systems.

Supervises the dismantling, repair and assembly of generators; synchronous machines; generators' rotary converters.

Installs, changes and replaces power plant generation and distribution equipment in transformer vaults or distribution centers. Cleans, adjusts and repairs electrical equipment such as air and water circuit breakers, remote controlled telemetering equipment.

Draws, interprets and files electrical blueprints.

Provides guidance to private contractors on the circuitry layout of building and facility facilities.

He directs and trains helpers, and may, on a functional basis, supervise other electricians or maintenance personnel.

MARINE ELECTRICAL:
Supervises the performance of advanced Journeyman level in the installation and maintenance of marine electrical systems and related equipment.

Supervises the installation and repair of marine distribution cables.

Oversees the dismantling, repairing and assembling of generators, synchronous motors and marine power plants. Marine generators may be used to power submarines and other electrical power plants.

Supervises the installation, tests and maintenance of marine vehicles - generators, transformers; converters; regulators. Records instruments : control systems and other circuit systems.

: Supervises the installation and repair of rigid electrical conduits, pulling in conductors; assembling bus bars; phasing out and converting conductors and splitting cables. :

Oversees the troubleshooting of distribution circuits and generating equipment, controlling equipment to locate outages and correct improper operations.

Supervises the repair of electrical auxiliary equipment in boosters and engine rooms, filtering transformer oil; checking the conditions of transformers, oil circuit breakers and related equipment.

Oversees the checking and truing of commutators and slip rings of rotary equipment while turning them in their bearings, using dressing stones, under-cutters and grinders.

Supervises the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems such as electric motors for generators, lighting systems and other electrical fixtures and equipment.

Supervises the repair, maintenance and alteration of electrical systems of susceptible bridges; repairing limit switches, plunger switches; electrical drive transformers, conduits and hydraulic pump motors. Troubleshoots all electrical systems.

SIGNAL LIGHT ELECTRICAL:
Supervises the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repairs of traffic signals, controllers, and traffic loops.

Oversees the repair of overhead lights at rest areas, weight stations and highway units.

Supervises the installation of new traffic signal lights and flashing beacons.

Oversees the erection of new poles and connects interconnecting cables, switches and control panels to new lines.

Supervises the construction of free standing electronic traffic control systems at road intersections and manufactures signal lights.

Inspects signal cables and replaces signal heads.
