Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM):

Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.


Salary Statement:

The salary for this position typically is $53,222.00 and may vary depending on educational or work experience, but typically the starting salary is in the $53,2225.00 range.


Role Overview:

The Digital Media Specialist focuses on creating visual and digital designs that reflect and reflect the brand and messaging of IDA, as well as individual program areas within the agency. This includes producing video projects, photographic images, audio recordings, and infographics that effectively communicate IDA's mission to protect human health and the environment. The specialist will work within the Media and Communications Services (MACS) team to ensure consistency in IDA''s brand and messaging across various media channels.

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 1.

  • IDEM's website, social media pages, email newsletters, and third-party communication channels require visual and video content to be created and edited by the writer for publication or distribution.
  • Basic design services including videography, photography, ads, print collateral, PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, and media materials. Basic design services for promotional and marketing campaigns.
  • Staff members using audio/visual equipment to ensure content production meets quality standards by managing the use of audio/visual technology.
  • Creating and preserving a video and photo library for MACS involves the creation and management of a video library, as well as the creation of a stock of video and photo material.
In addition to the above responsibilities, this position will also have specific duties as an audio-visual specialist and webcasting technician. This includes:
  • Technical support for web conferencing, including presentations, real-time point-to-point communications, and multicast communications, by providing technical assistance.
  • Agency products such as podcasts, video clips, animations, public service announcements, training applications, and animations are being produced and edited by agencies. This includes production and editing of agency products.
  • ensuring that all productions (originals and reproductions) are able to communicate effectively the intended message to the intended audience.

The Digital Media Specialist position requires the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in video production, multimedia, or a related field. Additional credits required.
  • To serve as a videographer and editor for video and audio products, including training applications, publications, and marketing materials, the candidate must have a thorough understanding of audio and video equipment to serve as an editor and videographer.
  • The ideal candidate must possess a strong grasp of photography and the aptitude to produce work in both print and electronic media. They must also possess the necessary skills to function as a full-time photographer and the primary specialist in photo equipment and software.
  • Experience in video and photography editing.
  • To work as the primary webcasting technician for the Adobe Connect System, a candidate must possess knowledge of webcasting technology and be able to integrate web 2.0 technologies into agency websites. This role requires an active commitment to developing and promoting the use of the Adobe Connect system.
  • To help transition the physical MACS publications/projects/photo archive system to a digital, paperless format, the director of communications is tasked with developing and improving the Extensis Portfolios system. This project requires knowledge of digital archiving systems and the agency's technical project management.
  • Capacities to adapt to new computer applications and developments to an already existing computer network.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a personal workload.
  • Exceptional design prowess and the ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, team members, and customers to ensure that agency products are designed to the highest standard.
