Duties
- Continually monitors data feeds from the various systems, adjusting as appropriate, diagnosing issues and taking appropriate actions.
- Integrates, optimises and expands heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; security systems; lighting control systems.
- Consults with control engineers, technicians and managers in order to troubleshoot building system problems. They work on complex building automation systems to control and maximise NAF resources.
- Troubleshoots problems with building automation systems and coordinates solutions to outside, and/or in-house, technicians and specialists.
- Consults and collaborates with trades people, engineers, and technical issues to ensure that maintenance and installations are planned and implemented efficiently.
- As part of a team, he works in providing technical advice, guidance and review of diagrams and drawings related to building automation work. This involves the installation and operation of facility control systems and components for biocontainment units.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly
related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described
for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for
this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of
specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the
work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge,
skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For
this position, specialized experience is experience assisting with installing
and maintaining building automation control systems; troubleshooting problems
with building automation systems; integrating, optimizing, or expanding
systems related to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) controls,
security, lighting, or energy management; and providing technical support to
staff in regards to building automation systems.
OR
Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or completion of three
(3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to
such a degree or LL.M, if related. Related degrees must demonstrate the
knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform job.
OR
A combination of doctorate level education and specialized experience as
describe above.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that can directly translate into paid employment. - Physical demands: The majority of time is spent on data feeds, the movement and placement of equipment and objects up to 50 pounds with appropriate support. Physical activity includes long periods of standing, bending, reaching, climbing ladders, and crawling and performing systems inspections of various types including general offices, laboratories, and animal facilities.

Working Environment: Working environments are performed in offices, laboratories, attics, mechanical and electrical rooms, and may require the use of special safety precautions and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE, such as respirators, disposable personal protective clothing, or chemical exhaust). Occasional exposure to dust, strong odors, fumes, toxic agents, etc.
- The environment requires staying alert and taking special safety precautions, including wearing of special protective clothing like hard hats, gloves and safety shoes. A degree of potential risk is involved due to biohazard laboratories' high levels of noise and vibration, grease, electrical hazards, moving parts of machinery or outdoor conditions involving exposure to hot/cold weather.
- The health status of patients is monitored periodically using biomedical and pathological tests, as well as physical examinations.
