Job Summary

This position is responsible for the design, implementation, testing and documentation of network data solutions. This position requires general knowledge of networking concepts - TCP/IP, routing and switching with some guidance from senior personnel as well as work with small teams using Agile principles.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design and test enterprise network solutions. implement and continue improvement of enterprise networks.
  • Configuration of Cisco products, testing and implementation of new network hardware devices (router & switches.) into existing network infrastructure.
  • For all network devices, maintain accurate diagrams and configurations.
  • Prepare engineering job packages consisting of detailed parts/electronic equipment lists and appropriate documentation (drawings, network diagrams, configurations, etc.).
  • Ensure life cycle cost effective design of systems with the goal of meeting business needs and providing a reliable, efficient service to users.
  • Prepare and submit cost estimates for planned installations, where required.
  • At various facilities, maintain familiarity with current networking technologies.
  • Provide, turn-up and troubleshoot both private and public WAN circuits.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • In lieu of a bachelor's degree, high school diploma/GED and four (4) years of relevant work experience are required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Cisco Certification CCNA
  • Cisco Systems' previous experience with design and support of products.
  • Experience with network hardware/software solutions, such as Cisco routers and switches, Cisco wireless controllers and APs.
  • What is the general knowledge of network concepts - TCP/IP, routing and switching?
  • The understanding of communication technology and data networking fundamentals.
  • Microsoft (MS) Windows Operating systems and MS Office. One year experience: /
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently without close direct supervision or review.
  • Demonstrates problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with specific technical software and hardware, including general usage and support. Computer skills: ability to research independently; multi-task; and meet deadlines under tight timeframes.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from different socioeconomic backgrounds and cultural backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with different levels within the organization. Ability to work effectively in a team-based/workplace environment.
  • How do I improve my communication skills in one month?
  • The ability to learn and apply defined telecom technologies to the business.
  • General knowledge of telecommunications systems, associated safety policy, practices, work procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal skills (listening, conflict management, approachability, and negotiations).

Working Conditions

  • 2. M-F, 8-12 hours per week in office (Mon & Wed)
  • Up to 5% travel
  • Some plan and substation visits, primarily in the office, require PPE.
  • After onboarding, hybrid mobility class work will be performed from both remote and on-site locations. Hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility, the company said in a statement.
