Do you have an interest in protecting, securing and working on a military installation? So the Department of Military Affairs is currently recruiting for Military Affairs Security Officers at Mitchell Air Base in Milwaukee, WI.

These are state of Wisconsin civil service positions.

Position Summary


These positions provide armed security services to protect property and persons from sabotage, fire, espionage, and theft at entry points into the National Guard or base. Control entry and exit of all personnel, vehicles and other equipment, and monitor and direct visitors in order to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, rules and laws, prepare and maintain records and documents, attend training classes and safety exercises.

Salary Information


New hires currently start at $24.65* per hour once they pass the qualification to carry firearms.

  • This starting point consists of:
  • A base salary of $19.65 per hour, the union said.
  • A $2.00 per hour add-on to the hourly rate for carrying a firearm while on duty (DMA will provide free firearms training), and )
  • Due to a critical need, the company is adding a temporary bonus of $3.00 per hour of work until such time as it has been determined that the criteria no longer applies.

These positions have a protective employment status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit.

For current state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the state Compensation Plan and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Job Details


At least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma, GED or HSES, pass a criminal background check prior to hire and be successful in obtaining a Department of Defense security clearance after appointment.

The successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment medical evaluation, including a drug screen: push-ups (10) and sit-ups (12), a sprint (300 meters in 90 seconds), a pull (77 lbs) and a lift (70 lbs).

The positions at the Wisconsin Air National Guard bases require the possession of a valid driver's license upon appointment and must obtain a military driver's permit after hire.

A probationary period of 12 months is required.

Qualifications


Minimum qualifications must have security/law enforcement experience or training/education.

As a qualification, well-qualified candidates will have:

  • I received a professional firearms training from the NRA.
  • Experience in law enforcement and training/education.
