The Office of Printing, Central Mail & Surplus Property is the State's resource for printing and mailing services for State of Kansas agencies.
The Printing Production Technician receives customer orders and disseminates the information by estimating the order then entering the information into the system which calculates costs of materials and labor to produce the job. The Printing Production Technician prepares written instructions directing each department on how to produce the order and what materials will be needed. Advises agencies to ensure orders are produced in the most cost-efficient manner. Incumbent will also purchase printing materials and consumables such as paper, ink, plates, etc.
A significant new area of responsibility is to transfer the estimate of print requests from the PACE system into SMART. A priority for the Printing department is to modernize the systems and align with other agencies in the SMART system. In addition, there is a focus of scheduling PACE print requests and ensuring that job tickets are complete and that stock is available. Another priority is to provide a digital store front for customers.
Primary duties and responsibilities consist of the following:
- Estimate Print requests and enter in PACE. Check job tickets before going into production for accuracy and clarity of information by reviewing created job ticket with customers print requisition (DA 104), to avoid confusion during production.
- Assist and communicate with customers the best method to produce the highest quality possible in a timely and cost-effective manner when needed.
- Communicate work orders of each job through written communication on job tickets in a timely manner.
- Order consumables, prepare Payment Authorizations and complete Purchase Orders. Convey information concerning production priorities and specifications to appropriate department leadership by personal interaction, phone calls and/or emails.
- Prepare estimates per customers request for budgetary purposes and accurately reflects projected costs of printed work.
- Complete daily walk through of production departments to track progress of job completion. Conveys information concerning production priorities and specifications to appropriate department managers by personal interaction, emails and/or phone calls. Keeps customers informed of job progress. Research completed jobs to discover reasons for production problems and/or cost overruns. Discuss with customers when appropriate. Determine methods to avoid similar problems on future production.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience in the printing trade, customer service and/or estimating. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
