We are excited to announce an opening for a Molecular Diagnostician in the Nematology Lab. The employee in this position will be responsible for performing molecular diagnostic testing, including interpretation of DNA sequencing results, and evaluating the results of nematode assays to give site-specific recommendations for management of plantparasitic
nematodes.

The Agronomic Division is hiring an Agricultural Program Specialist III/Nematode Molecular Diagnostician to work as the senior technical specialist to the State Nematologist. The employee will be trained to identify nematodes in routine predictive and diagnostic samples using microscopic examination of morphological and anatomical differences. This
position assists the Nematologist in higher level technical duties, including writing recommendations for clients based on assay results, method development and validation of molecular diagnostic procedures, performing statistical analysis and
interpretation of data, reviewing pertinent literature, and writing scientific publications and educational materials.
Normal working hours are 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday but occasional overtime may be required to meet established turnaround times.

- Working knowledge of biology and molecular biology.
- Basic knowledge of plant pathology.
- Basic knowledge of good laboratory and safety practices.
- Very good attention to detail.
- Ability to express technical information clearly, both orally and in writing, when reporting results and explaining procedures to others.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time using a microscope.
- Proficiency in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Regular lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- College-level coursework in plant pathology and molecular biology from an appropriately accredited institution and experience in molecular diagnosis testing.
- Experience using a Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office software, and a Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Bachelor's degree in an agricultural field or a field related to the area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in the planning, analysis, or administration of agriculturally related programs in the public or private sectors; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
