Summary

Responsible for the billing file transfers between Customer Information System (CIS), Field Collection System (FCS) and Meter Data Management System (MDMS). Troubleshoots, validates, and corrects electrical and water meter readings collected by the Electric Metering department.

Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

Essential Job Functions:


  • Generates and analyzestime sensitive meter reading verification reports in CIS and determines accounts needing to be re-read
  • Enters corrected water and wastewater end of month meter readings in CIS
  • Documents reading errors, skipped reads and reader statistics on error report and skip bulk report
  • Enters work orders into CIS for meter maintenance for example skips, errors, flow checks, and high priority tickets
  • Creates various reports to verify meter change outs, reads, skip etc. from FCS daily
  • Evaluates meter reading and verification processes on a regular basis and makes improvements when needed
  • Generates daily reports within CIS to be assigned to the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) team for skipped electric reads
  • Performs daily functions in FCS of re-read verifications, assigns meter reading routes for contractors including split routes, and ensures routes successfully load, unloads and checks cycle for completion in handheld mobiles
  • Assists with remote connects and disconnects of electric utilities through AMI system
  • Builds download files in CIS for cycles
  • Creates import files in CIS that bring cycles into FCS and MDMS
  • Creates export files of completed cycles in FCS and MDMS to transfer into CIS
  • Deletes completed cycles in CIS and FCS in preparation for next month’s cycle load according to billing calendar
  • Provides customer support for electrical service standards
  • Maintains good working relationship and communication with other departments such as, Water Metering, Customer Service, Building Inspections, and external customers
  • Serves as back up for the Meter Reading Lead and Meter System Administrator
  • Provides support to help resolve issues from field personnel
  • Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
Additional Duties:
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalencies:


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of experience in billing electric and water utilities or reading meters
Core Competencies:
  • Must abide by the safety rules and work procedures of the DME Hazard Recognition Program and APPA Safety Manual
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Knowledge of the City of Denton’s permitting and inspections processes
  • Knowledge of the City of Denton’s customer service and billing processes
  • Knowledge of NorthStar billing system, FCS, Serviewcom, Clevest, Adobe, and Microsoft Office programs
Preferences:
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification
  • Must be able to work overtime when requested
  • Must pass a physical examination
