Full Description

We are looking for an experienced, compassionate, organized, dependable Medical billing and coding specialist to join our billing department. This is a part time position, joining with our in house biller, working within our Southbury office as well as remotely, two days a week, for a total of 16 hours per week.

This position will also require the candidate to be trained as, and act as receptionist for the facility when not actively billing/working on billing assignments. The candidate will be trained in administrative and receptionist skills within our practice, to be used during working hours when billing isn't required.

Qualified candidate should have minimum of two years of billing experience.

Must be proficient in reading EOB's, claim processing, posting ERA's, writing appeals, AR follow up, collections of unpaid balances, verification of insurance benefits and EMR. The ideal candidate will possess excellent phone skills, compassionate care when handling patient's owed and overdue bills, and the ability to work together with the billing and administrative team.

Qualifications

  • ICD-10: 3 years (Preferred)
  • CPT Coding: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Medical Billing: 3 years (Preferred)

Full Job Description

  • Obtaining referrals and pre-authorizations as required for visits and medications.
  • Checking eligibility and benefits verification for visits
  • Reviewing patient bills for accuracy and completeness, and obtaining any missing information.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and transmitting claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing.
  • Following up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe.
  • Checking each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contractual agreement
  • Calling insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary
  • Identifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurances.
  • Reviewing accounts for insurance of patient follow-up.
  • Researching and appealing denied claims.
  • Answering all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.
  • Setting up patient payment plans and work collection accounts.
  • Updating billing software with rate changes.
  • Updating and running collection reports.
