Salary Recruitment Range: $56,906 - $63,279
Salary Grade: NC17

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workday. The NC Department of Insurance trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

Mission of the Department of Insurance:
To promote a stable insurance market through unbiased regulation and to protect the lives and property of every citizen in all 100 counties while fostering superior, user-friendly service, courtesy, and respect.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The primary purpose of the position is to perform market conduct analysis by collecting and analyzing data on all domestic and foreign insurance entities that are licensed to do business in the State of North Carolina in order to proactively identify general market disruptions early and to eliminate, or limit, harm to consumers, policyholders and/or claimants. Provides support for Market Regulation¿s efforts to ensure licensees are in compliance with North Carolina insurance laws, regulations, bulletins and other applicable requirements including performing analytical studies by analyzing data through the use of various software applications.

The Market Analyst provides analytical support for examination teams and assists market regulation examiner personnel in the procurement of data to be used by the examiner to fulfill their responsibilities.

In addition, the Analyst will participate in technical projects and create reports by extracting information from various sources.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
  • Knowledge of insurance entity operations and concepts.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with various time frames, both short and long term.
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with various audiences including management, peers, and insurance industry representatives.
  • Creativity, flexibility, willingness to consider new approaches and other viewpoints.
  • Diplomacy and a strong customer service ethic.

Management Preferences:
  • Experience with property and casualty insurance concepts and products.
  • Advanced knowledge of overall company operations and concepts.
  • Experience in data mining and analysis.
  • Experience with statutes and regulations applicable to insurance companies or prior experience working with other legal and regulatory issues.
  • Industry designations such as CPCU, CIC, AIRC, etc.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in business or economics or a related program from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in policy and rate examinations, underwriting, claims adjusting work, or financial/marketing analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
