Full Description
Do you have accounting or finance experience? Do you have a passion for public health programs? The Utah Department of Health and Human Services Division of Integrated Healthcare (DIH) seeks you as a Financial Analyst I to provide financial management support in the Medicaid program. To be successful in this role you need the ability to perform basic accounting, budget and other financial functions. Experience in MS Excel is critical for this position. This position will require the applicant to be in office 2-3 days per week with the option to telework the remaining days of the week.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has an understanding of accounting principles.
- Has strong analytical skills
- Can conceptualize, evaluate and implement process improvements.
- Can effectively communicate in writing and verbally.
- Can work with people in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
- Has experience using MS Excel and MS Access.
A skills test in Microsoft Excel will be administered to assess skills needed for this position.
Preference may be given to applicants with or pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

The accounting tasks you will be responsible for are:
- Assisting with the DIH’s daily check process
- Reviewing fiscal operations to ensure integrity, accuracy, and control of data.
- Preparing and presenting financial reports utilizing MS Excel spreadsheets and pivot tables.
- Ensuring financial compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and department rules, policies, standards and practices.
- Reconciling financial allocations and reports.
- Analyzing, summarizing, and reviewing data and interpreting results and making recommendations.
- Researching and reviewing financial records, transactions, and documentation.
- Coordinating with division program staff to complete assigned duties.
- Manages accounting or budget activities and provides fiscal information.
- Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
