Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director of Communications for Marketing and Television. The Director of Marketing, Communications and Television reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Continuing Studies. The position oversees a comprehensive marketing and communications effort for the Division of Continuing Studies (DoCS) and runs the iTV Studio as a Rutgers-wide resource for professional television and video production. The Director is responsible for developing complete marketing campaigns and solutions for undergraduate and graduate adult education programs (credit and non-credit) delivered in classroom, online, and hybrid formats. The position will work collaboratively and extensively with units across all campuses to support recruitment goals and to promote all programs under the Division of Continuing Studies.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Develops comprehensive, proactive short-term and long-term marketing and communications strategies for Continuing Studies and Distance Education programs at Rutgers. The position will implement those strategies in conjunction with providing day-to-day oversight in the areas of marketing, branding, social media, web, media relations, crisis communications, issues management, special projects, trade shows, and events.
  • Oversees and is responsible for the financial viability of the Rutgers iTV Studio. The position will run the iTV Studio, a unit of Rutgers University Division of Continuing Studies, and drive revenue growth to develop a self-sustainable revenue model for the studio.
  • Manages the professional production facilities with its studio and on-location capabilities, as well as a wide array of audio applications services, multimedia services, and creative content development support.
  • Ensures that Rutgers branding/graphic design standards are maintained across all continuing education programs, services, and collateral material.
  • Ensures that consistent imaging and high standards of service are delivered in all DoCS marketing efforts. It oversees design, content, analytics, and search engine optimization of the Continuing Education Website.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive social media strategy and presence. It manages the work of advertising agencies, social media firms, content creators, graphic designers, photographers, printers, and related contractors.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
  • Five or more years in marketing and communication or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree; marketing and communications experience in higher education; demonstrated professional advancement to senior management-level position; working knowledge of institutional branding, public relations, marketing, and revenue generation strategies.
  • Knowledge and expertise in web communication including design and understanding of using web analytics platforms, media relations, surveying and marketing analysis and understanding of the needs and strategy of a communications network.
  • Creative and visionary in approach to developing marketing programs and communications.
  • Able to work with various constituencies in determining marketing strategies and communications needs; create consistent message and visual identity to strengthen DoCS positioning with key groups (prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, staff, corporate partners, government agencies, etc).

Equipment Utilized
  • Must have proficiency with current tools of digital marketing, social media, and multi-media content creation, distribution and analytics.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must have the ability to travel to offsite locations where DoCS programs and services are delivered.
