SUMMARY:
This position requires an outgoing personality, experience in computers, typing, writing, good communication skills and knowledge of the history and street locations of Tupelo, flexibility in supporting staff, website knowledge, good recording methods and able to handle multi-task situations with efficiency and quality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers phone/channels calls to appropriate CVB staff members.
- Handles walk-in visitor traffic requests.
- Assist with fulfillment packets when needed.
- Assist CVB staff special requests when needed.
- Oversees and maintains the conference room and keeps a conference room calendar.
- Responsible for appearance of front desk area.
- Waters plants in the office and outside(the ones in vats).
- Checks in supplies.
- Assist with e-mail blasts of special events when needed assist with website updates when needed.
- Monitors and maintains newspaper articles for scrapbook on a daily basis in regards to tourism and/ or city related matters that could affect tourism and makes copies for ALL staff members.
- Keeps records on incoming telephone inquiries and ad responses.
- Keeps record on mail-out materials requested over phone.
- Keeps records on materials/special items sent out by staff.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None, but incumbent does provide assistance and guidance to volunteers and part-time help when situation dictates.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or Acceptable Equivalent (i.e. GED).
- Experience in public relations field desired.
- Experience as secretary/receptionist.
- Experience in general office work desired.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Computer literate in Windows operating system.
- Computer literate in Microsoft office products.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret correspondence, reports, and other general data;
- Ability to prepare reports and correspondence;
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and customers in person and by telephone;
- Pleasant telephone voice.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define and solve minor problems or refer problems to appropriate supervisor.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:
- Possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License and a Social Security number.
- Non U.S. Citizens must have appropriate Immigration documents.
