Job Role Summary

This position is responsible for the direction, oversight, and strategic development of public health engagement. This includes directing the strategy and execution of community-based partnerships that aim to improve health outcomes through health equity programming and social determinants of health improvements in communities throughout Indianapolis/Marion County. This position will be funded through Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG)

Essential Duties

  • Supports the MCPHD vision and mission through department presence in the community.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships and assists in the mobilization of community partnerships to identify and solve health problems related to the populations served.
  • Establishes and maintains effective lines of communication and collaboration with the community, key populations, including racial and ethnic populations, and other program areas within MCPHD.
  • Serves as the liaison as requested by the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Diversion Programs and Civic Engagement to engage with various entities within the community.
  • Engage with region five for emergency preparedness exercises and response to public health emergencies as directed.
  • Coordinate with local hospitals in the city of Indianapolis to bring collaborative opportunities for community outreach in the county and city.
  • Coordinate with all MCPHD divisions Neighborhood liaisons for information sharing, engagement tracking, and in-house evaluation of engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners in the development of program activities that focus on those in the community most at risk and/or most in need of care, training, and skills development.
  • Complete, review, and edit comprehensive reports that document overall success, challenges, and outcomes of outreach and engagement measures.
  • Assist H.O.P.E coordinator as needed/warranted.


Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves on appropriate committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Participates in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed.
  • Participates in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in public health, education or social services field; or six years related experiences or training related to racial and ethnic populations; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years or more experience in program management, program planning, and evaluation is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to present results and interact with all levels of corporate and divisional staff and management.
  • Experience and ability with public speaking and communication at meetings and conferences, with a diversity of audiences and people. Interpersonal communications, tact and diplomatic acumen to effectively represent the Marion County Public Health Department.
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and multi-tasking.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Must have a valid Indiana driver’s license.

  • Bi-lingual strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience in working effectively with diverse populations and age groups.
  • Ability to work independently and in team relationships effectively.

Working Enviornment

  • Office environment and local travel will be standard.
  • Regular contacts with representatives of the public health system including all public, private, and voluntary entities that contribute to public health activities in Marion County to counsel, educate and exchange information.
  • Regular contact with Federal and State partners.
  • Required to drive between office and meetings, outreach sites, health fairs and community events.
  • Some physical effort associated with filing, carrying supplies for health fairs and/or exhibits.
  • Will be required to work evenings and weekends when warranted.
  • Must be flexible/responsive to changing requirements and many deadlines.
