Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a dynamic, detailed oriented person to serve as an Administrative Commander for the Parole Division. This Administrator will serve as a full line supervisor in the supervision of both Parole Supervisors and Parole Agents. This Administrator will ensure compliance with departmental rules, policies, regulations, and procedures. This Administrator will assist Parole Executive Staff with oversight of Parole Operations in Fleet Management, Due Process Issues and Community Out-Reach to include Travel and Public Speaking. This Administrator will also assist with creation and implementation of new policies related to Parole Operations as well as collaborating with the Training Coordinator to ensure Parole Staff receive training as required. We are looking for someone with a strong, professional law enforcement, probation, or parole supervisory background. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Serves as Administrative Commander of District 1 North/West Parole Offices.
- Manages and directs the operations of District 1 North/West Parole Offices.
- Coordinates the community outreach and reentry programs such as Project Safe Neighborhood, Violence Reduction Strategy, and Summit of Hope.
- Prepares correspondence and reports regarding operation of the district.
- Serves as Fleet Management Coordinator.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in behavioral or social sciences or law enforcement.
- Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the area of law enforcement, probation, or parole work or counseling work in a public or private agency or institution whose primary function is the treatment and the rehabilitation of adult or juvenile individuals in custody.
- Of the three (3) years of experience requires two (2) years of experience working with parolees.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience implementing and/or monitoring policies and procedures for an organization that’s clients are in a conditional release setting.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working in a correctional setting with emphasis on conditional release.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience resolving complaints and/or issues amongst subordinates.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of work experience with key control and/or property control.
- Prefers at least one (1) year experience in an organizations budget process.
- Prefers at least one (1) year work experience with fleet management.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience utilizing computer software such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, and WebEx.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience communicating with upper-level management personnel.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires a valid, appropriate driver’s license and the ability to travel.
- Requires ability to carry a firearm.
- Requires the ability to qualify with firearms prior to the completion of the initial pre-service training curriculum and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
- Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification Card.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
