If you answered yes to these questions, then you might be interested in applying for the position of State Emergency Management District Field Officer. This position is responsible for providing essential support to the counties and tribes in their assigned district, including maintaining situational awareness of emerging threats and hazards, facilitating local training and exercise opportunities, and assisting with disaster declarations and grant applications. You will also serve as a primary point of contact between the local jurisdictions and the Montana Disaster & Emergency Services and the State Emergency Coordination Center (SECC).

This position falls within the emergency management career ladder which establishes criteria for initial pay and pay increases, based on experience in all aspects of the profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Support development and administration of local, tribal, regional and statewide disaster and emergency plans that integrate agency plans and resources at all levels.
  • Research new methods, resources, techniques, and strategies with emergency planning and management.
  • Provide technical assistance to local and tribal stakeholders in the development and management of grants such as the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) and other Homeland Security grants.
  • Assist local and tribal jurisdictions with emergency and disaster declarations when needed.
  • Assist local jurisdictions and the State Emergency Coordination Center maintain situational awareness of emerging threat and hazards
  • Conduct or coordinate training and exercises for emergency responders and community stakeholders
  • Coordinate preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation efforts with local, tribal, state and federal agencies and private industry partners
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration, or project management or a related field.
  • Four years of professional work experience in emergency management or a related field.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of emergency management, including the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the state and occasionally outside the state.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.

A combination of education and experience will be considered

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package. The location of the position is in Helena, Montana, however, telework is an option within the assigned district. You will report to the State Response Bureau Chief.

Conditions of employment: Must successfully pass background and driving records checks.
